Trill Reproduction

  • Well I wasn't sure how detailed to go. It's not like Donato has much experience with writing scientific journals. He's a science virgin, but I gave it to @portius to look over.

We're all adults here (And if we go on about eggs vs live young, breasts should be mentioned because they are there in mammals because they need live young.)

I guess I took my studies in Biology too far.

OK well unless you tell me more specifics then, I have to ignore your comment, sorry.  :|

    Anyone else have feedback?
I think she's referring to Trill Reproductive habits/organs, not to her objection.

ie: It might be better not to publish that book, because it might best be left a mystery/left to players to decide, whereas if you publish the book as if it were firsthand research, the admin have to review it with an eye toward 'this is canon.' Additionally, the admin will also have to consider the implication that it would raise vis-a-vis whether OTHER races should be allowed to publish their own versions, and whether Lusternia is really the kind of place that needs a series of dissertations on various races' genitalia.

    You win.

Hang on, there is pornography in the game. How is my essay any more filthy or inappropriate? It's pretty tame compared to a boudoir with two sexy twins in lingerie.

I have no idea where this boudoir is or why it exists. What is this debauchery?

Only thing I can think of is the page you give to the scholar who's too embarrassed to say what he's looking for. Though I'm sure Gaudiguch has a bordello or two.

To drag us a little bit back on topic (or not) I am somewhat annoyed by the pre-Aetherspace prestige-published book called 'Finkology: An Introduction' which claims that Momma Mia has a secret stockpile of unhatched female fink eggs behind her cauldron, and if she dies, they will all hatch and fight to the death to claim the spot as new matriarch. This is obviously rubbish, but it is stated as fact, and Nikk can't actually prove it is wrong directly. Can't go back to Newton and search for the eggs (which are not there). Can't get a fink to tell me 'that's rubbish, you can't stop eggs hatching like that'.

I'm writing a 'New Finkology' book. Can I just pretend that I know for a fact she doesn't have these eggs? My case is somewhat improved by the fact that the book also claims finks are basically insect/reptile hybrid animals who gained speech. I suppose people can always publish arguments against my book if they so wish...

  • We know that Finks sharded from an Eldar and hatch from eggs(because their honor quests has a fink warrior doing just that).
And from what we've seen in Newtons that seem to have an antlike social structure with workers/regular finks, of both genders. warriors, and queenstypes who lay the eggs and lead them.

    FOR pposters who aren't steingrim:

I don't think there's actually very much difference between 'worker' and 'warrior' finks. Sure, they are born weaker or stronger - maybe I'm biased, but I'd like to think that with enough training any male fink (or kephera for that matter) can be a fighter.

On trill, I'm gonna pretty much go with them not laying eggs for now.

Sorry, we already have a fictional totalitarian government in Hallifax. It's called 1984.

Daraius is right it's an extract from pornographic literature in the library.

Excuse me, I take offense to this. It's called the Pleasure Palace, and the harlots are some of our most upstanding citizens.

It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

Oh yeah, Donato went there once, went through all of them, and lasted longer. You need better harlots.

Vats are for lichkids. Halli gets assembly lines.

What I'm getting from this is that Hallifax needs to invent warforged.

  • Aren't those in the Chancel?

  • That would be an interesting way to create a new player race. We could use a nexus as a creation forge. Might be a bit like the -woods?
  • EnyalidaEnyalida Nasty Woman, Sockpuppeteer to the Gods
That's basically what the -woods are. Using the last of the Sacred Trees and scraping the bottom of the power in the nexii, the last druids fusion-ha'd with the trees, eventually using the very last of the power to fling themselves back in time.
  • Sorry but, I just have to say it. You talk about cannibalism and nobody bats an eye. But you mention vagina and penis once, and everyone goes mad!
  • DaraiusDaraius Shevat The juror's taco spot
Well because vaginas and penises are gross, obviously.

Would totally pay 500 credits to be able to reincarnate into Halliforged as long as it was a spec race.

I forgot that the Lusternia player base age is 7. Is overhaul just going to leave us with one affliction, 'cooties'? :P
  • I hate to necro a thread probably best left dead, especially since neither of my trill was ever that concerned with reproduction (Stratas figures babies are something that happens in Wyrdr Glade and are not his concern otherwise, Saleo is aware of the standard Hallifaxian Baby Requisition Form 1134(a)02 but never got past that point. Tomir, for what it's worth, thinks babies happen because when two people love each other -very much- then Cupid flies to the Trademaster of the Babymaking Cartel and submits a design to the Charities, where it's approved 18-20 years later and they pop fully grown from the Portal of Fate).

But, I did have a thought, and it's -way- more complicated than "Do Trill have cloacas?" The coded in, mechanical structure of families in this game (and associated RP from at least everyone -I've- ever played with, including at least one Divine) supports family by blood, not adoption. If you are accepted as someone's child, or sibling, it's because of an actual blood relation - there's a genetic link. Genetic expression gets wonky when it comes to influence by godshards and the capriciousness of the Fates during the Portal experience, but it's still there. Family is actual, genuine relations, which is why there are incest rules, and why you can't reject family and then bloodbond into another. And again, I've never met anyone who argues with this, though I haven't met everyone.

But then, Stratas has two dads. He himself has a daughter through another man. Nicholo had two paternal grandmothers. This is a common thing. And, supported by mechanics (and the text in help files), they are blood relations. Druken and Eliron actually reproduced, and a baby trillthing was born.

I'm not sure if any NPCs in the game are obviously children of a same-sex pairing. But there ARE same-sex pairings in NPCs, and I can't imagine why the Portal of Fate would cause such a biological change. Maybe it's a result of the Divine Shard being enhanced to the point that babies fall out of the air?

It seems a bit weird to discuss IG biology using real world terms and concepts, when IG supports a biological impossibility. Male and Female don't seem to be defined by reproductive potential (see: Elder Gods, who couldn't reproduce but gendered themselves anyways - and then some still had same gender mates). It seems mostly to be a matter of boobies vs dangly parts, unless you're a kephera, in which case there's a difference in other aptitudes.
The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure pure reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog!
  • QistrelQistrel the hemisemidemifink
Kephera, illithoid or pureblood dracnari (the latter do not exist because boobies).
