Whoever holds the purple hamster at the end of the challenge will receive the Seal of Chaos.

Seal of Nature

Event: This challenge is a rigorous quiz about the nature of Lusternia and its history. The winner receives the Seal of Knowledge.

Seal of Harmony

Event: Four Wargames will be held with teams of 3. After all four are won, the winning four teams will have a final wargame against each other to determine the overall winning team. Once the final winning team is decided, the team members are given a choice. Decide among them who they support for Ascension and who will take the Seal, or enter a Free-For-All and the winner of the FFA will be the winner of the Seal of War.

Seal of Justice

Deadline for Entry: February 17, 2013
Date Winner Announced: February 24, 2013
Time: TBA
Event: The Trademaster of each trade cartel may submit one design (either public or cartel-specific) on behalf of the cartel. The artist of that design must be specified as it needn't be the Trademaster. For example, Trademaster Tom of the Lollipop cartel may submit a design and specify Jane as the artist. If that design wins, Jane would be considered the winner of the challenge. To enter, the Trademaster should message the Charites with the Cartel's entry and specify who the artist is at that time. The winner of this challenge will receive the Seal of Beauty.

Final Trial: Ascension

Whichever of the nine winners holds the staff for one full Lusternian day shall arise to become the True Ascendant!

I can't help but think holding the first two while there's still the influence week contest going on is a bit ill timed.

Minor gripe I know, and I have personal interest in the matter but. Meh.

The divine voice of Avechna, the Avenger reverberates powerfully, "Congratulations, Morkarion, you are the Bringer of Death indeed."

You see Estarra the Eternal shout, "Morkarion is no more! Mourn the mortal! But welcome True Ascendant Karlach, of the Realm of Death!

Boo-urns at Seal of Knowledge time! :(

I've said this before, and I'll say it again... Why not give times in GMT instead of, or even in addition to, the times in PST? Many of us don't know when PST is, and the TIME command shows it in GMT (which, of course, is the international standard). It just seems off that every time given in events are given in PST when there's no way in-game to check what time it is PST!

The point is, I shouldn't have to rely on other sites to tell me the time something happens in Lusternia. Giving the time in GMT as well as PST would give far more people a better idea of when an event takes place; outside of the US, people compare their timezone to GMT, not to PST, after all.
    image
  • We will always give times in PST. We tried to do GMT in the past and ended up confusing everyone or having the times be wrong (even when they were set up by experts in GMT, something wasn't taken into account).

So anyway, I will always post official times in PST. If someone feels like converting to GMT, by all means go for it! But if you get it wrong or someone misreads it or inaccurately converts it to their time zone, it won't be my fault!

The time wasn't the official one, it was just carried over from last year, accidentally. The actual time will be 3pm Pacific (which should be 11pm GMT, going by the TIME verb. That is to say, 6pm Eastern).

Compromise! Event will be at blah PST (GMT -7) or whatever PST actually is in relation to GMT....then everyone can work out the time in relation to their own timezone. PST means nothing to me. Relating it to GMT does, I go well, I'm GMT +10, so if I count forward 17 hours from then, I know what it will be in my local time, yay! Surely that's workable?

This is also why I will use real world dates (as OOC footnotes) whenever I do one of my own "events".  I try to stay in character as much as possible, but I find trying to use the In Game Dating system to actually schedule events so people know when I'll be around is very confusing.

There's a plethora of time converters online. Use those.

And then I am left wondering...do they have daylight savings? Don't  they? I'm not asking for much, just when you say something is 8pm PST you also make it clear exactly what timezone PST is (For example PST is GMT -6). Sue me for not being an American and your stupid timezone names having zero relevance to me, I think there is less chance for confusion adding that tiny little thing to the posts than expecting everyone else to go searching for the answer when it may still be wrong or subject to confusion.

  • QistrelQistrel the hemisemidemifink
I think they call it PDT when daylight savings are on? I think? I dunno, I'm with the CAT over here, and we don't use no daylight savings.

  • SilvanusSilvanus The Sparrowhawk
That'd be correct, and PST is -8 GMT (not -6).

Its kind of a funny timezone to choose, because when things are advertised here (nationally) in America, its always with Eastern time as the standard time, and then the local time afterwards.

'The Superbowl will start at 6:30 Eastern, 3:30 here in California.'

2014/04/19 01:38:01 - Leolamins drained 2000000 power to raise Silvanus as a Vernal Ascendant.
2014/07/23 05:01:29 - Silvanus drained 2000000 power to raise Munsia as a Vernal Ascendant.
2015/05/24 06:03:07 - Silvanus drained 2000000 power to raise Arimisia as a Vernal Ascendant.
2015/05/24 06:03:58 - Silvanus drained 2000000 power to raise Lavinya as a Vernal Ascendant.

I didn't actually look it up, that was just an example. Would make life so much easier to just include the info (GMT -8) along with the times!

That changes twice a year, though, and I get the feeling that Estarra just doesn't want to be "on the hook" for getting that right.

  • Unfortunately, we've tried that in the past and inevitably the overlap in dates causes confusion, and people complain because they thought an event was the next day. It's just not something worth fighting over - if we give the times in one set time (and I try to use Pacific, in lieu of the S/D, personally, because a lot of Americans use them interchangeably) then the blame isn't on us.

And we use Pacific because that's what Estarra is most familiar with, and this way we (the admin) have a uniform method of tracking and deciding times without confusion.

Personally, if you ask, I'll gladly tell you the difference between TIME and the current time on the US Pacific coast, but I get very edgy about time conversions because I know some use DST and so do not.
  • LavinyaLavinya Queen of Snark Australia
What Morshoth did. Solves all the problems. If there's any confusion outside of that, it's because people can't count. You don't have to change the time at all, you're just giving a reference so everyone can work it out easily.

  • So the seal of knowledge was at 3pm PST instead of 8:30pm PST :(

I literally missed all but the last 4-5 questions.

Two things about the new dates.

1: I assume Death and Life aren't actually both at 4pm on the 23rd, and that Death is instead 4pm on the 24th?

2: The war seal will be going on 9-10 am on Monday morning in Australia, for anyone over there with work commitments it's locking them out of the tournament. Is there any possibility this could be held Friday evening/Saturday evening instead? I know the Admin have RL as well and may like to socialise/go out etc on a Friday night, but is there a work around that can give some help to the guys already dealing with an 18 hour timezone difference?

  • At least shifting it back 3-5 hours on the Sunday time. I can deal with getting up at 3am or 4am to have everything done with by 7/8am. But starting the finals at 9am on a Monday is rough! :(
