Monks for Hallifax?

I"ve noticed that there is no monk guild for Hallifax.
The D&D  player in me find that wrong, as it associates both Hallifax and Monks with Law/Order.
And in game, it does seem like they would be a natural fit.
If a Kepheran Queen Monk with trancendant guild skills from Celest or Seren wanted to found a guild in Hallifax, would that work? Or is it trickier than that?

  • The problem is that the game doesn't have the population to support any more guilds - we're spread thinly player-wise as it is.

Hallifax has a kephera in their collegium, and Gaudi has an illithoid. So presumably Hallifax gets harmony monks, and Gaudi gets stealth. Though I don't think either city much care which side of the Undervault is winning...

You'll generally find that most of the cities generally have set aside the entire undervault conflict as is :P

Right, as noted above there's nothing we can do to actually hasten the opening of monk guilds in Hallifax and Gaudi, but there are people interested in monk stuff you can talk to in Hallifax.
    I used to make cakes.

To better answer this part, it's actually trickier. Opening an actual guild isn't player-driven, it's admin-driven with a pre-designed Kata specialization and back history. That doesn't mean you can't take Tahtetso/Shofangi to Hallifax, just that it won't be a formal canon part of the city guilds and you'll be slightly gimped on power usage when it comes to your monk skills.

It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

I hear the Hallifax monks will kill people with teacups.

  • Yes please, only this time, don't leave everything half baked.

So what you're saying is that you want them to release a set of skills that have been fully tested in every scenario possible to rule out possible bugs and imbalances, including balances against the skillset released at the same time and already existing ones?

  • @Shaddus that would be ideal, yes. If that's not possible. Get it to a point where it doesn't get changed everytime you blink because of bug fixes, before releasing it. Provide proper help scrolls too.

At the very least, nail down the backstory, (who, what why and how) so that the organization doesn't end up fighing over what it is all about.

    That's a good idea. :)

Plus, we're getting our kata from the Tosha monks. Forget the Undervault.  O:-)
But... the Tosha Monks are seekers of enlightenment, and are protected by Gaudiguch under every treaty ever. Makes more sense for the enlightenment seekers to teach fellow enlightenment seekers (In this case, Gaudiguch)
I occasionally like to pretend that I'm replanting all of these herbs to attract bees, and might one day form an alliance with the bees and take over the Basin. Then we could have a wonderful tea party with plenty of honey and the best tea blends.

Hallifax has historical ties with the monastery because everything @Portius writes is canon. And the Ambassador is BFF's with Master Quettle. But maybe we can share lobokata and have our own city specs.

    There is a small hope.

Admin willing, Monkish would like to review the skillset and create a spread draft to theorycraft with first.  The skillset does not need to be out, if we have proper information we can create theoretical forms and find the breaking points.  Note this is also likely to be the process we take once affliction changes for things come out to physical guilds, as our offenses are likely to become very different.

What does a spread draft look like?

Ignoring that there are common things we can all use:

The form is also a Ninjakari help scroll to help simplify form creation down to being a one page (hopefully) endeavor.  If we can even see the proposed effects of the skills (ABs) then we can use something similar to try and break it before release.   Ignoring we can't give any feedbacks on skills that are outside those normal kata (like the chem nukes, no one expected them to do that kind of damage even without afflictions in many cases).

As an aside, Monkish is going to go public as things get closer.  We lead the charge on nerfing the class down, and people willing, we would like to fix things before they break anyone.
