Buff Specifics

edited March 2015 in Combat Overhaul
Here's a list of the buff system loaded which can be tested in the arena. Xenthos will be going through to offer suggestions (possibly raising the levels from 1-5 to 1-10). If you have suggestions or opinions, please work through Xenthos so we can get it all in one report.

Damage resistances
* Note that damage source is eliminated. Everything goes by damage type.
** Note that some defs will not appear on bodyscan because they depend on data from a specific attack so might or might not apply to any particular attack. For example, elasticity depends on if the attacker targets a body part or not. Puissance depends on if you use a warrior weapon and what kind. Some defs only apply to bashing. These will apply to your damage resist but will not appear on bodyscan.

Whoa, Clumsiness is going to be a super debuff?

Also, the only ones with */5 universals are celest-aligned abilities. Not sure how I feel about that. Technically everyone gets access to it via divine favours, I guess. But still.

Note that I'm going to be going through this tomorrow after work, but please feel free to discuss ideas and the like.  Note that I, after discussion with other envoys, am very keen on the idea of changing the maximum number of "base / non-artifact" levels from 5 to 10.  This will give a great deal of additional ability to tweak the amounts provided by each individual skill and to ensure that it's not possible to "max out" with just generally available skills and abilities.

As such, most likely, generally available / generic skills would be providing either 1/6, 2/6, or 3/6.  The 3/6 would be extraordinarily rare (I'm not sure if any of them qualify, but we can discuss something such as Attune which is environmentally restricted and is a transcendant skill).

Also please note that I'm just putting together the list, whatever ends up being proposed isn't going to be exactly what ends up getting implemented (everything is subject to Admin approval).  Obviously I'd prefer to have input and suggestions to get something that we all can live with!

Note that Numen at least is time-limited and costs power, so I expected it to give a cap of 5 (like Putre does, it's a different sort of limitation).  I fully expect that, as well as Putre, to be one of the organization-limited */10 skills.

I would rather see the opposit--that we keep it at 5, so there's less of an increase (unless I'm entirely misunderstanding what increasing it to 10 would mean).
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

It'll be the exact same end result (each level would have its effect halved), but with the difference that skills can be tweaked to make a more reasonable flow and you can't easily cap out with just 4 abilities on their own.

If I remember correctly, the bonus capped out at 25% bonus, right?  If that's the case, then having it go from 5 (5% per step) to 10 (2.5% per step) would allow for far finer control of determining what buffs what.

For instance, something I'm curious about are the curios that have split DMP values.  In the current 1/4 system for curios, would they provide 1/4 to each damage type?  That could allow for the splits to be 1/X to two damage types, while the dedicated ones are 2/X.

Edit: Also, if someone's got the time/knows the abilities, might not be a bad idea to note what skill set each of the buffs comes from.

  • XenthosXenthos Shadow Lord
Yep, I'd agree with split curios being 1/x, and dedicated at 2/x.  Seems the best way to go with it.

I'm personally pushing for the bonus (pre-artifacts) to cap at 30%.  That way, while it will be a hefty nerf to those of us who are used to having really high defenses, it's at least something that we can survive.  The intent is to reduce the gap and "normalize" buffs, so as to reduce the major outliers and come to a more balanced outcome.

I'm sorry, but what is this?

Also, isn't interference Damage Dmp and not defense? And can we really lock interference for Divinus and Excoro?

    Sorry, I keep adding stuff.

Does being in water really lower cold defense?
Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

I'm speculating that gris-grayl is Skinrot, but I'm not sure.  None of us are at this point.

Yes, being in water lowers cold defense.  It now shows up on bodyscan resistances when standing in water (when in the arena using the new system).

I just looked over this, but here is my very first impression on the 5tier system (which btw, I thought it was 7 tiers with artifacts?)

Kirigami, war karma, darkbeer (or shrine vendetta/vindicated vendetta) caps out my damage on every damage type, making buff tattoos, certain skills (for instance, firefugue) worthless. I'm pretty much hitting the possible cap with general universal buffs. I don't like that.

Additional question  - will darkbeer/amberbeer no longer scale on drunkenness levels?

You can use interference for any damage type that you can do, but it only affects your damage.

Deep water has affected cold and fire damage for years now. Aqua staff used to be Heat, and considering the fire maluses and crazy stat damage of early Lusternia, it was doing a lot of damage. Staff damage was then changed at some point because of the deep water thing. Being frozen also affects blunt damage. Am I the only person here who tends to read over the old forums?

Also, as a note (and I am posting this on its own because it deserves a new post):
I was asked about Truefavours and if they would still work outside the system.  Looking at the list, the answer appears to be "no".  They have been merged / converted in (though giving the favoured individual the maximum non-artifact cap and making it far easier to get there).

Since right now, Truefavours work outside DMP, this is going to be a pretty significant hit to people who benefit from consistent & constant Truefavours while hunting.

If you have ideas or thoughts on how to ameliorate this, while keeping TFs under the new system, please feel free to share them.  I do not think there's any chance of them being outside the system any more (it's completely contrary to the intent of this overhaul).

I don't have a problem with this--as I understand it, you will be able to pick and choose what buffs you get from what sources. But if you want to get a useable buff from everything that gets a buff, aren't we just recreating the same problem of everyone needing every available buff in order to compete?

As far as damage buffs go (increasing your damage), I'm actually in favour of needing a wide array of them in order to get near maxing it out.  You should need to work to increase your damage-- this will end up with you focusing on just one or two types (the ones you generally use) to max them, instead of being able to do everything well.

As far as damage resistance goes, I think it needs to be a middle ground.  You should need an array of skills to get there, but you shouldn't need every single skill in the game to do so.  Damage resistance is pretty important, and we rely on it to survive in PvE every day.  That's the part that I think needs the most time and energy spent on it, to try and make sure that it's done right.  It may also need more tweaking after the initial implementation & testing, if we find that my suggested starting point of 30% is Just Too Low.

I did notice that Wildarrane's Wildechord/Freeze did do more damage in water, but I didn't really consider it worth thinking about.

I don't have a problem with this--as I understand it, you will be able to pick and choose what buffs you get from what sources. But if you want to get a useable buff from everything that gets a buff, aren't we just recreating the same problem of everyone needing every available buff in order to compete?

No, the issue is that when you're maxing out on easy to get universal buffs, you're maxed out on every damage type and not just the select one or two that's favored now.  Every damage type will be at the same base level because those 3 buffs are stupidily easy to get and maintain. If you don't like darkbeer because you have no tolerance, switch in bardsong or shrine power, or one of the other multitudes of things that give you 1/3 buff. Skill specific buffs that cap at 3 will be useless, so either use a 10 tier system, or buff up skill buffs to 1/5 or something.

The damage cap is still maxed at 25% overall, where we can get upwards of 50%+ at the moment, so concerns about getting every last buff to boost aren't really an issue.

It's exactly the opposite: You don't pick and choose anything, you take three very cheap common buffs and now there is literally no choice: you are capped at everything.
  • So Holywater will no longer completely absorb a single hit, then? Will it still only last for a single hit?

  • Why is Magic Tome 1/3 in all categories and not 1/3 in Universal?

I don't think it gives dmp to divinus and excoro, does it?

  • "Excorable", "Magic tome", 1/3
    "Divinus", "Magic tome", 1/3

  • It's probably because they want the magic tome to take up all of those slots rather than a single universal one.

Am I just blind or are robes and armour not in the list? I see proofings are at least.

  • Oh, I didn't really look closely at the list. If there's something that you don't recognize, ignore it. Nothing to see here.

  • Because I'm absolutely dreadful when it comes to making informed decisions without a suitably understandable chart, here's the info above formatted all spic and span.

I've added more information on the original listing as best as I can figure it out, but there are spaces in red I've just no clue about or am unsure about.

I've as well started a second sheet that semi-details missing buffs/resistances in yellow. It's a work in progress since I only got to analyzing the skill lists through Kata, so I'll finish this up probably tomorrow.

Let me know if something is egregiously wrong, and I'll give my own comments on things once I'm finished.

How are monk tattoos with tattoo armour working? For now we get double what non-monks get from damage resist tattoos. But the tattoo buffs on the list are only 1/3 from what I can see. Do we get 2/4 or something?

Also this seems to be a really big nerf to psymet/tattoo armour monks. :(

  • Naturally, all the envoys will be suggesting adjustments which need to be made. Feel free to look for your envoys, or other monk envoys with your concerns so we can put them up for consideration with the admin.

  • So what's happening to racial resistances, or is that something for later? Curious to see that omen is going back to an increased damage taken debuff.
  • ElanorwenElanorwen The White Falconess
Omen is likely still slated to go... never mind how ridiculous those numbers seem to be... -4/-4? I get it, omen is the button to damagekill tanky players with minimum difficulty, but come on. I find it more interesting that from the universal damage buffs, there only seems to be havoc cry as a /5. Practically make that power a must have for ascendants, especially considering that there seems to be nothing else that boosts past /4 (with minor exceptions)
