Meeting the Dame Dioyne Fairquillion (Hallifax)

ZyphoraZyphora :: the sun in her splendour ::
edited March 2013 in Event Scrolls
In which the Collectivists Zyphora, Ioni, Entrias, Maellio, and Shedrin meet Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, former governess of Talthos.

Inclining her head with a regal nod, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion strides in from
the south with the strict clack of her cane.

Tall and austere, this hawkish trill woman sums up her surroundings in a quick
glance, her eyebrows ever-lifted with faint incredulity. Though never once a
great beauty, this willowy trill has aged gracefully; the palest grey colours
subtly thread their way through her large white wings, barely discernible except
when caught in the light. Her haughty and imposing demeanor is further
heightened by her high cheek-bones and the fathomless blue of her soulful eyes.
Her attire is prim, but polished, constructed from smooth black satin that
gently drapes into a fashionable frill about the neck and bustles dramatically
at the waist. A single ebony ribbon ties back her head feathers in a tight
semblance of a bun, its faded ivory plumage flecked with the occasional shadow
of silver. Her no-nonsense gloves cut neatly at the wrist, and she rests them
leisurely upon an elegant walking cane, clutching an opalline falcon that has
been cleverly carved into the crest.
Dame Dioyne Fairquillion has an air of extreme strength.
She weighs about 134 pounds.
She has a slight weakness to fire damage.
She has a moderate resistance to cold damage.
She has a moderate resistance to electrical damage.
She has a moderate resistance to psychic damage.
You cannot see what Dame Dioyne Fairquillion is holding.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion inclines her head politely to you.

You curtsey gracefully.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "A fine day for shopping, is it not?"

You smile and say, "It is indeed."

A sapphirine tailor's workshop.
Banks of clouds roil about here. Prominently in this tailoring workshop rests a
bench that holds an assortment of tools for sewing, haberdashery and cobbling.
Dame Dioyne Fairquillion stands here with cool austerity, hands folded politely
upon an elegant walking cane.
You see a single exit leading south.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion leisurely rests her hands on her walking cane as she
contemplates the wares.

You say, "How are you faring?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Quite well, thank you. And yourself?"

Pausing a moment, you say, "I am faring splendidly. If you'd be so kind, how may
I address you?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion fiddles with a needle left atop the work bench idly
before glancing up.

With a small smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to you, "Forgive me, I have
not introduced myself. You may call me Dame Fairquillion, although I am afraid I
am retired, the title is mere formality."

A thunderclap amidst crimson lightning announces the entrance of a black
thunderbird from the south.

Surrounded by crimson lightning, a black
thunderbird spreads her black, leathery wings here, grey eyes blazing with a
keen intellect. Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus is here,
shrouded. He wields a delicate crystal staff in his left hand and a glacial
platinum tower shield in his right. He is surrounded by one reflection of
himself.
You see a single exit leading south.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion inclines her head politely to Ioni.

Ioni inclines his head politely to you.

Ioni inclines his head politely to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.
Smiling wanly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Fair skies to you, Ioni."

You say to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "Ah, it is a pleasure to meet you. I am the
Provost Zyphora Windwhisper."

You curtsey gracefully before Ioni.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance as
well, Provost."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says to you, "Salutations,
Provost."

Ioni looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

You say to Ioni, "Tidings, Emeritus."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "I hope I'm not
interrupting something."

With a slight chuckle, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I am afraid I may be
interrupting."

The corners of Ioni's mouth turn up as he grins mischievously.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I can depart, if you have business to attend
to?"

Glancing at the Dame with a smile, you say, "Well, two interruptions surely
isn't too much greater than one."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

You say to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "Ah, please do not feel obligated to leave."

You feel a slight tug within your chest and the air around you sparkles with
motes of bright light.

You say to Ioni, "Is there some matter that must be attended?"

With a flourish of his arm, Entrias bows deeply.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says to you, "Well, I am
going to need a new set of robes."

Entrias begins to follow you.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "However, I was
planning on enchanting them myself and therefore would need many to work on."

"Heh heh heh" Dame Dioyne Fairquillion chuckles.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "I figured you could
sell the ones I don't want in the Four Winds Emporium."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It appears the city has a surplus of tailors."

You say to Ioni, "Ah, I see. Well, might you place the order to me in a message
so that I shall not forget? I do not wish to be rude to the Dame Fairquillion."

Entrias bows respectfully to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion inclines her head politely to Entrias.

You say to Ioni, "Thank you for the kind donation."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion waves her hand dismissively.

Ioni nods his head emphatically.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I am merely passing through. Do not stand on
ceremony for a mere tourist."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says to you, "Certainly, it
isn't an urgent matter."

'Oh?' Ioni exclaims quizzically at Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.

Murmuring politely, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to you,
"Why don't you offer to assist her in touring the city, love."

You smile and say, "Ah, we welcome tourists. Please, let us know what we might
do for you."

Ioni nods his head in agreement.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Gracious, such an open-ended offer." She pauses,
caught in deep contemplation. "I am afraid I do not know what I should ask to
see."

You say, "If you wish a tour of the city, we'd gladly show you around."

Entrias nods his head in agreement.

Thin lines of pure white energy drift in from the south, assembling into a
complex design that weaves itself into the form of Shedrin, riding a great black
hippogriff with black wings.

You say, "If you wish to peruse some finery, we could introduce you to the shops."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "That is exceedingly thoughtful of you, Provost
Windwhisper. If you do have a moment or so, I would welcome the opportunity."

Shedrin gazes in your direction as his crystalline form fades to a cool, sky-
blue colour.

You have emoted: Zyphora inclines her head respectfully.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "The Beacon of Harmony has
many beautiful sights as well, including the Salons and the Generator."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I was fortunate enough to encounter Talan
Ysav'rai a few months back. I received a tour of her shop, in fact."

Justicar Shedrin Shevat says to you, "Provost."

You say to Shedrin, "Yes, Justicar?"

Justicar Shedrin Shevat says to you, "The Aesthete's glade is not clouded."

Justicar Shedrin Shevat says to you, "That is all."

Shedrin inclines his head politely to those around him.

Shedrin, riding a great black hippogriff with black wings, disintegrates into
pure white lines of force that drift southward in precise patterns.

Entrias tilts his head back and looks up at the sky.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Lightly, you say, "My goodness, my Collectivist companions seem to have such
impeccable timing with their arrivals."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "My, are such curt behaviors...common here?"

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer murmurs, "Only from some."

Entrias waves his hand dismissively.

Chuckling to herself, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I would have expected it
to be quite differently."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion,
"Perhaps you would like to see the Opera House? It's quite well renowned in the
Basin, a true pinnacle of architectural glory."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "That is an excellent
suggestion, Chancellor."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion purses her lips pensively, gazing off into the distance
as she carefully gathers her thoughts.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I do believe I would like that."

You smile and say, "It is true. As a centre of the arts, we pride ourselves on
having a venue with the finest of theatre selections."

Entrias smiles softly at Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion begins to follow you.

Entrias starts dusting a grey engineer's suit.

Ioni begins to follow you.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I would not expect anything less from the Beacon
of Harmony."

The ghost of a smile passes fleetingly across Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's lips.

You smile and say, "Stay close and do not become lost amid the crystal bridges."

Auditorium of the Grand Hallifaxian Opera House. (Hallifax City)
Banks of clouds roil about here. Plush velvet cushions offer comfortable seating
upon an elaborately engraved marble opera bench here. In the shape of an open
palm, a metallic sigil lies here. Surrounded by crimson lightning, a black
thunderbird spreads her black, leathery wings here, grey eyes blazing with a
    keen intellect.
You see a single exit leading northeast.

With an elegant flourish, you say, "And here is our Opera House."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion glances about with keen interest, clutching her cane
    tightly.

Matter-of-factly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is exceedingly opulent."

You say, "The members of our Symphonium feature the premieres of their
performances here, though not all are recorded."

Showing that she understands, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion nods her head slowly.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Your reportoire is quite impressive."

You say, "We have quite the array of award-winning performances as well. Those
most often watched are the plays by the esteemed Lady Sylandra Shevat and the
    Minister Irillia Shevat."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Oh? Any relation to Master Artist Shevat?"

Her voice laced with humour, you say, "Artistry runs deep in that family."

    Entrias chuckles long and heartily.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion allows herself a pleased smile.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is good that all the old ways have not been
    entirely lost."

You say, "Hm, I believe Irillia is not by blood a Shevat, and the Lady Sylandra
married into the family. So it is by marriage only."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Entrias acknowledges the point with a grave nod of his head.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Keeping up appearances, then."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "And the three of you, none of you enjoy the
    pleasures of the stage?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion tilts her head curiously.

Politely, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "My talents lie
elsewhere, though I do intend on writing a play at some point. Too many pans in
    the fire, as it were."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion chuckles long and heartily.

With a melodic laugh, you say, "I certainly enjoy watching and acting, though I
have yet to pen my own play."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "The curse of bearing multiple talents in a
    single vessel."

Your eyes sparkle with amusement at Entrias.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "I've yet to perform on
    stage I'm afraid."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer blushes softly, glancing away.
Pursing her lips in thought, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I am afraid I, too,
find myself too often watching a performance rather than performing. My talents
lie more often in guiding others."

With a slow nod to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, Entrias shows his understanding.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion,
"You must have considerable experience in guiding others, Dame Fairquillion."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion lets out a sudden, unexpected laugh.

With a bemused smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Oh, quite so. I served as
a governess for many, many years."

You have emoted: Provost Zyphora Windwhisper, High Scion of the Aesthete clears
her throat slightly, her wing knocking into Entrias suddenly. She smiles.

Blinking, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Interesting."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer glances at you for a second
    before looking back.

Blandly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Is it though? I fear I am an
uninteresting companion at present. I find myself devastatingly boring, truth be
    told."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Not at all, Dame
Fairquillion. Guiding the young to reach their full potential is an honourable
and interesting position to be in, and one that I enjoy."

You say, "A governess? Ah, of course not, that must be quite the source of
exciting tales. Certainly you've had the odd unruly student or two."

Entrias nods his head at you.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Ah, well. I have retired all too recently. I am
afraid I have dried up of stories to tell."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion leans on her cane with the briefest of sighs.

Gesturing towards the nearby bench, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance
Engineer says, "If you wish to have a seat, please do."

Allowing herself a smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "You are very kind,
    Chancellor."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion sits herself down.

You smile and say, "Dried up? Stories only grow better and more fondly
remembered with each re-telling, as the stage makes evident."

Entrias nods his head at you, showing his acceptance.

Airily waving a hand, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I taught in Talthos. My
family has taught other families for generations, and generations, since the
departure of Hallifax from the Basin of Life."

Showing that he understands, Entrias nods his head slowly.

Glancing up with a small smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Someone had to
preserve the old ways of decorum, science, and artistry, else the old ways would
be forgotten by the new generations."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion looks up at the stage pensively.

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "Well, I know I for one
    am most grateful for that."

You say, "Ah, what a rich history your family must have. Your service is quite
admirable - all too often I see young Collectivists in need of a proper
    education in decorum."

You lazily draw your wings to and fro through the air, fanning them slowly.

Ioni nods his head at you, showing his acceptance.

Pointing to the stage, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "But this, and
institutions such as the Symphonium that uphold it, have made me obsolete. And
that is well. Hallifax is once more the centre of culture, as it should be."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion lifts her eyebrow as she tilts her head in your
direction, offering a deeply curious expression.

Politely, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Decorum and
education is not, nor never should be, obsolete."

Entirely shocked, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "No decorum?"

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Nor ever, rather. Pardon."

Repeating with a flatter tone than normal, you say, "No decorum."

Steadying herself, quite perplexed, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "You
misunderstand me. I was assuming that the city now enforced these practices
    within its institutions."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer grunts softly, glaring off into
the distance. "Unruly novices, slackers all of them."

    Entrias clears his throat.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion blinks once, twice, before regaining her composure.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Pardon, simply thinking of
    an earlier problem novice."

    Entrias waves his hand dismissively.

Murmuring to herself, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It appears I am not the
only one here with stories to tell."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "There are a few who
are a bit too stubborn for their own good."

    Entrias chuckles long and heartily.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Or need instruction in
    decorum."

Entrias looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Stubbornness is a mark of individualist egotism.
A shame, but one can be taught to suppress it."

    Entrias nods his head.

You have emoted: Zyphora tucks her wings behind her primly. "To believe that all
our novices come to us groomed and proper is quite the complimentary assumption,
and a lovely reflection on all that we strive to uphold in our beautiful city.
But, the fact remains that the portal leaves novices... ungroomed. Untrained.
Sometimes unfit to be considered a true Hallifaxian."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer glances at you and Ioni, biting
his lip as if in thought.

    Entrias nods his head.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "I wonder if..."

Entrias purses his lips pensively, gazing off into the distance as he carefully
    gathers his thoughts.

    Ioni tilts his head curiously.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion clutches her cane all too tightly as she lies in
    thought.

Rubbing her temple slightly, you say, "Most of us teach purely by example, but
there are others who might leave the impression that such is not the norm."

Chuckling to herself, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Gracious, I am too old to
    be appalled by such things..."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion,
"I wonder if perhaps you would be amenable to staying within the city for a
while, and perhaps instructing our novices in proper decorum. I'm sure we can
find proper lodging for you as befits your considerable knowledge and experience."

    Maellio raises an eyebrow questioningly.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Oh, goodness."

    You curtsey gracefully before Maellio.

    Entrias bows respectfully to Maellio.

Maellio inclines his head politely to those around him.

You say to Maellio, "Magistrate, please meet the Dame Fairquillion, a former
    governess of Talthos."

    Entrias nods his head.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion curtseys with stiff politeness.

You say to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "Dame Fairquillion, this is the Magistrate
    of Hallifax."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to Maellio, "You've a lovely city, Magistrate. It
is a pleasure to make your acquaintance."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Ah, a pleasure
likewise Dame Fairquillion to meet yourself and hear your compliments for our
    City."

With a wry smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I do endeavor to say only true
    things."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "A most
    worthwhile choice."

    Entrias nods his head.

Maellio's body and features begin to melt like wax, then solidifies into a trill.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "There, less the
    odd-one out."

    Ioni grins mischievously at Maellio.

A wry smile spreads across your face.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer glances at Maellio, stifling a
    chuckle politely.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "And to what do
we owe the pleasure of your visit, Dame?"

Chuckling lightly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to Maellio, "Retirement. A
friend has recommended a change of scenery, and insisted Hallifax was the place
    to visit for that."

    Entrias nods his head.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "I see, I see. It
certainly has scenery like no other."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Thus far, she has spoken rightly. I have enjoyed
    my time thus far."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to Maellio, "As you arrived,
I was extending the invitation for the dame to stay with us for a while, and
perhaps instruct our novices in the nuances of decorum. With the Board's
    permission, of course."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I had the pleasure of meeting your librarian,
one called Portius Windwhisper, a few months back. I quite enjoyed viewing the
    books you offer here."

Your mouth turns up as your face breaks into a smile.

    Entrias smiles softly.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion laughs lightly and waves her hand.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Oh, I do not know. I have no intention of
becoming a charity project for the city. But surely, I could visit from time to
time, and if decorum is required, I would be happy to instruct it."

You smile and say, "You would be no charity project, I assure you of that, Dame
    Fairquillion."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer blinks at Dioyne, shocked. "Not a
charity case at all, Dame Fairquillion."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Certainly not
charity, such would certainly not be the intent or even within our legal lexicon."

Amused, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "The city need not put funds in order for
my lodging, at any rate. I am certain I can make do myself in that regard."

You say, "Any time you offer to the Collective would be deeply and truly
    appreciated."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "We would be lucky to
have someone around with such expertise and knowledge."

Entrias nods his head at you, showing his acceptance.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Fair enough, I
was to say that while I cannot offer such to you without the vote of my fellows
I am certainly within my rights to offer you citizenship, if so desired."

Pleasantly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is very flattering to feel this
    appreciated, I must say."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Until arriving here, I have been simply aimless.
I do believe I shall be arriving here more often, as the alternative is going
    mad with tedium."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "All who serve
the Collective, in however small a way or desire, are appreciated I assure you.
    Retirement or otherwise."

Entrias nods his head in agreement.

    Dame Dioyne Fairquillion smiles softly.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "You are most kind."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer smiles and says, "If I
am complimented such, I am in no position to argue."

"Heh heh heh" Dame Dioyne Fairquillion chuckles.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to Maellio, "Perhaps
Mistress Nann can find her some lodging while the Dame stays with us?"

You say, "If tedium drives you mad, our novices - and perhaps some veterans -
    will keep you sane."

Entrias nods his head at you, showing his acceptance.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion waves her hand dismissively.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I can handle myself quite well, for the time
being. A friend has given me lodging."

    "Oh?" Entrias exclaims quizzically.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer smiles and says, "That is good to
    hear."

After a pause, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Perhaps you know her?"

Entrias looks up at Dame Dioyne Fairquillion curiously.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion smiles uncertainly, gripping the crest of her cane
    tighter.

    Maellio tilts his head curiously.

It is now the 11th of Tzarin, 349 years after the Coming of Estarra.
    .
You say, "You need not tell us if it makes you uncomfortable, Dame Fairquillion."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "The truth of the matter is, I do not know her
name. But she was kind to me, and I wish to thank her."

Showing that he understands, Entrias nods his head slowly.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer smiles and says, "If you can
describe her, perhaps we can inform you as to her name and station."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I asked your citizen Talan if she knew perhaps
of the woman's name, but I was informed lavishly dressed trill women are rather
    common sights in these spires."

    Entrias's eyes twinkle enchantingly.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Certainly it
would only be fitting that we ascertain her identity for you."

You say, "Perhaps the colour of her wings might reveal her identity?"

Patting her cane fondly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "She did, however, give
me this. It is a remarkable thing."

    Ioni smiles softly.

Nodding, you say, "How gracious of her."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer glances at Dioyne's cane
appraisingly. Taking out a notepad, he jots down a few sketches before replacing
    it in his suit pocket.

Studying it, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I rather like falcons. I have
always been fond of birds, though."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "An opaline falcon. How
    interesting."

Entrias looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "A falcon."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to Entrias, "I wondered if it was a family crest
of some sort. Portius seemed rather informed on the subject."

You look thoughtful and say, "It is part of a crest, though not of a family."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer taps his chin, deep in thought.
"I'm unaware of family sigils and crests, though I believe the Lady Isune does
    keep a companion bird."

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says to you, "A falcon, isn't
    he?"

    Szariec, the amethyst-horned hippogriff says, "T'birdee o'the Fair-Lady, ennit?"

Entrias nods his head at Szariec, the amethyst-horned hippogriff.

Nodding, you say, "The Lady Aesthete, the Elder Goddess Isune, has a companion
falcon that is part of Her symbol."

    Entrias smiles softly at you.

Comprehension flashes across Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's face.

Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Perhaps the crest is that
of a family close to the Lady Aesthete's heart."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "How curious. Perhaps I stumbled across a member
    of Her order."

Entrias nods his head at Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, showing his acceptance.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Perhaps."

You say, "The Librarian Portius would be quite informed of the subject. He is
    Her chosen Weaver."

Showing that she understands, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion nods her head slowly.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "He wore a rather remarkable pendulum - one quite
    like yours, in fact, Provost."

    Maellio ponders the situation.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion inclines her head politely to Shedrin.

Shedrin inclines his head politely to those around him.

You say, "And a quite appropriate one at that. I'm surprised he didn't start
telling you all He knew of Her--" She pauses, glancing down at her pendulum. She
says, "Yes, it is a gift She bestowed upon those of Her Order."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "I do so wonder..."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion purses her lips pensively, gazing off into the distance
as she carefully gathers her thoughts.

You have emoted: Zyphora's eyes glimmer with amusement. "She treats us very well."

The corners of Entrias's mouth turn up as he grins mischievously.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I do suppose there is no reason to sort all this
out now. Particularly if Divine are involved in some fashion." She murmurs to
herself, "Mother always did say not to interfere with Elders."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Interfere,
mayhaps. Involve oneself with, a different story."

Nodding politely, Chancellor Entrias Pavok, Maintenance Engineer says, "Perhaps
some rest and refreshment is in order after your journey, Dame Fairquillion?"

Entrias nods his head at Maellio.

With a small smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Perhaps so. It has been
quite a pleasure to meet all of you. Provost, Emeritus, Chancellor, Magistrate."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion ponders Shedrin thoughtfully, looking him up and down.

At a loss, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to Shedrin, "And you."

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "We call him
    Shedrin."

Entrias hides a grin behind his hand.

Justicar Shedrin Shevat says to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "I am merely an
    observer."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "I did suppose that."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion lifts herself from the bench, standing up.

Curtseying deeply, you say, "A great pleasure to meet you, Dame Fairquillion."

    Dame Dioyne Fairquillion curtseys gracefully.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion clacks her cane once, firmly, and abruptly shatters
    into stained-glass sunlight.

With a flourish of his arm, Maellio bows deeply.

    You blink.

    Entrias blinks.

Ioni looks about himself, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.

Shaper-Magistrate Maellio Onz'Verheu, Penumbral Observer says, "Impressive."

Emeritus Ioni Windwhisper, Forecaster of the Arcus says, "Well that was rather
    unexpected."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "It is a nice cane, isn't it."

  • Ooooh, now I'm curious!

(Clan) You say, "THE NANNY YOU NEED IS NANNY DIOYNE FAIRQUILLION."
Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

Having decided to be marginally less lazy than normal, I'm hijacking this thread to post the log of my meeting with Dioyne. I think this happened a couple of days before the above.

With a faint smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Forgive me, I presumed you
    were merely occupied."

You say to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion, "Quite so. A momentary inconvenience. Can I
    be of service?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion folds her hands over her cane, lips pursed as she
    contemplates her answer.

A bit distantly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Perhaps so. Though I am afraid
the favor I wish to ask is a trifling one."

You say, "Please, ask. I am always pleased to help a comrade, no matter how
    trivial the task."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to you, "I have been advised to visit Hallifax,
upon a recommendation from a friend in Talthos. A change in scenery, I believe
is the colloquialism that is used."

You say, "So it is. And this is a fine place to visit. It is the most glorious
city in all the world, after all."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion glances up at the rows and rows of books, appearing
    faintly impressed.

Gaze still tilted upwards, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I know of Hallifax
only in legend. But this," she says, gesturing about herself, "this is not myth,
but reality. And it upholds its myth well."

You say, "I am pleased to see that you are impressed. I do what I can to improve
    our archives."

Comprehension dawning, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Ah. Then you are the
    librarian of this city."

You say, "I have that pleasure. Is there something that I can help you find?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion glances up and laughs lightly, a quiet sound.

Appearing at a loss, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I am afraid I do not know.
Perhaps when I was younger, I would have more questions to ask. I seek
knowledge, but of what sort I cannot say. I suppose I am merely curious for now,
and know not where to start."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion pauses for a moment, turning towards you with an
    apologetic sigh.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to you, "Forgive me. I have not properly
    introduced myself."

Your mouth turns up as your face breaks into a smile.

You say, "It seemed impolite of me to ask."

Curtseying with stiff politeness, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I am Dame
Dioyne, of House Fairquillion. I have served in Talthos as a governess for some
time now, and only recently retired."

You bow respectfully to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.

With a faint chuckle, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Consider me, then, ah... a
    tourist?"

You say, "I am pleased to meet you, Dame Dioyne, and I am pleased to welcome you
to Hallifax for however long you choose to stay. I am Portius Windwhisper,
Librarian of the Collective, Execumatrix Magnificus of the Institute and loyal
    servant of the Lady Aesthete."

Nodding with approval, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "A litany of titles indeed
for a man as young as yourself."

You say, "I have accumulated them as others retired and suggested that I take
their place. I do what I can."

The ghost of a smile passes fleetingly across Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's lips.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Where do all the retired titles go, I wonder. I
am attempting holiday, but it is a restless endeavor for one so used to labour
    as myself."

You say, "They are passed on, I suppose. You shall find a way to settle your
soul, one way or the other. Perhaps a new occupation will present itself, a more
    relaxing one."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion lazily draws her wings to and fro through the air,
    fanning them slowly.

With measured contemplation, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Perhaps. Though
teaching has been my passion, for years."

You say, "You could perhaps teach in a more informal context? You might wander
the lower wards of this noble city, exploring them as a tourist, and teach those
you come across of your own homeland? It would do the lower castes good to learn
    of Talthos."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "In truth, I owe my profession to your city."

    You say, "Oh?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion nods, relaxing her shoulders as she leans upon her
    cane.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to you, "Long ago, when Hallifax was lost to time
and space, those survivors left behind strove to find a way to keep to the old
ways in this world without the Beacon of Harmony."

    You nod your head emphatically.

You say, "And that way was to settle in Talthos?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Quite so. But there was a problem at hand. As
generations went on, some of the old ways were lost. Manners, histories,
artistry - the newer generations were to forget them, if they were not upheld."

You say, "That would have been a tragedy, especially in light of Hallifax's
    loss."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "My ancestors taught the remainders of the
Hallifaxian artists and scientists those practices, serving as instructors for
their children. My family has preserved the ways of etiquette, proper dancing,
polite conversation, and other such practices, so that they could be passed on."

You say, "That is a noble and necessary calling."

Looking about herself, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "I suppose nowadays, such
a need is no longer pressing. The Beacon of Harmony has returned, and the old
    ways are no longer lost."

You say, "There are always children who must be taught. Such is the way of the
    world."

The ghost of a smile passes fleetingly across Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's lips.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "A true statement indeed."

You say, "More elderly sorts as well, sometimes. I had need of a tutor, once
upon a time. I still do, occasionally."

Eyebrow lifted, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Is that so? My services are
constantly available as of late. Although, I cannot teach in the way that a
proper institution such as the Symphonium can, and so I cannot promise that."

You say, "I am certain that I am not the only person whose social graces have
been found to be lacking. If you still wish to teach, you might find some
pleasure in tutoring people such as myself."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion's eyes sparkle with amusement.

You say, "I had the fortune of learning from my cousins and, in some moments,
the Lady Herself, but not all can be so lucky. It would be a great service."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "You are kind, to give an elderly woman purpose.
I shall think on that offer with utmost sincerity."

You say, "No person should wander without purpose. It is a special sort of
    tragedy to see talents wasted."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "At present, however, I believe I must tarry. I
shall visit Hallifax again, I have no doubt." She glances about herself once
more, before frowning. "It is a shame, however, that I have not encountered the
kind soul who invited me here."

You say, "Oh? Who invited you?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says to you, "A charming trill woman, dressed most
fashionably and with a bright sort of laugh. She saw me stumbling upon the roads
and, in fact, gave me this walking cane to make my travels easier."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion pats the opalline falcon at the cane's crest fondly.

You say, "Ah. I think I can guess who she was."

Frowning slightly, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Seems a pity I cannot thank
her. I shall endeavor to try again."

Your mouth turns up as your face breaks into a smile.

You say, "We shall see about that, if my guess is correct."

You reach out and touch a teardrop pendulum of starlit quartz.
Motes of light wink off of the faceted quartz as the pendulum hovers in response
to a distant, unheard vibration, before stilling once more.

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "Yes, Portius?"

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion tilts her head curiously.

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Have You been scheming again, Lady?"

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "I am always scheming, Portius."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Specifically, have You been intervening in the life
    of a certain Dame Fairquillion?"

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "Why, Portius. Do you mean to say I manipulate
pleasant women with kindness in the hopes of winning them into My service?"

(The Grand Salon): You say, "It is not unheard of."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "Well were I to do it, I would most assuredly
    succeed."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "She would like to thank You for sending her to
Hallifax. Although I expect You have been spying on us."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "So You would, of course, know that."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "I? Spying? Perish the thought. I am merely
    observing."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "It is part of scientific method, Portius. You
ought to know that. Perfectly acceptable."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Oh, of course. I do not mean to imply that I look
down upon it. Quite the opposite. But it almost seems impolite not to allow her
to thank You for directing her to the Collective."

Glancing at the pendulum, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is a rather lovely
    pendulum you are wearing."

You say, "Thank you. A gift from the Lady Aesthete Herself."

You say, "A token of Her esteem, you might say."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "I will reveal Myself when it is appropriate."

Showing that she understands, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion nods her head slowly.

(The Grand Salon): You say, "I see, Lady. Of course."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "It is exquisite. She is skilled at Her
    handiwork."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion takes a pocketwatch out and squints at it.

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Unfortunately, I must depart."

You say, "Of course. I hope that you return to us soon."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion curtseys gracefully before you.

You say, "Walk with the Lady's grace."

You bow respectfully to Dame Dioyne Fairquillion.

With a slight smile, Dame Dioyne Fairquillion says, "Perhaps I will."

Dame Dioyne Fairquillion clacks her cane once, firmly, and abruptly shatters
    into stained-glass sunlight.

    You blink.

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "It is a nice cane, isn't it."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Very much so."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "I have a feeling we shall see her again."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "It seems likely, if You have been tempting her into
    Hallifax."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Or doing more, perhaps, given the nature of her
    exit."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "I can be persuasive."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "So I have often seen, Lady. I take this as an omen
    of greater things to come."

(The Grand Salon): Isune says, "As always."

(The Grand Salon): You say, "Then I look forward of learning Your motive in all
    of this."
Any sufficiently advanced pun is indistinguishable from comedy.
