Looks like the code block ate a few of the <def/target/other> type tags in the syntax, but the important stuff is there at least.

    Zarakido is the Harmony/Stealth equivalent.

    Remaining choice is Acrobatics/Psychometabolism
  • ShaddusShaddus , the Leper Messiah Outside your window.
    The short version is this.

You drink beer(Gaudi) or tea(Hallifax) to gain a resource, and then use the resource to activate a Harmony version of a skill, or a Chaotic version which is generally more powerful, but often has a malus or chance to fail.

Some are also missing from the AB files, like transcendtalflux doesn't indicate where to put the target in the syntax:

Is positionflux prevented by rooting and/or monoliths?

    Is discordantsymmetry a permanent defense?

    Is hungeringwill PVE too?

    These all seem super cool!

    ZARAKIDO - POSITIONFLUX
CHAOTIC EFFECT:  Move somewhere in the area.

What does that mean exactly? What limitations are on it?

    Edit: Copied wrong thing.

  • Discordantsymmetry lasts a short while, a few minutes. Not sure how long exactly or if there's RNG in it but it's long enough that you'd only need to use it once-twice in pvp before wiping, I'd think. Feels about as long as Aeonics Paradox.

  • Hrm, this looks interesting.

On first glance, there're plenty of abilities in there where the chaotic version is pretty much pointless, and the harmonic one is the only real choice (eg. hiddenflux, adaptiveflux, esotericflux). The trans ability changes things up, of course, but it's a pretty hefty cost, and even then there are some chaotic effects that have RNG built into the main effect (not the malus - for example, moodflux and enigmaticburst), which makes little sense to use with the trans ability anyway. Using the trans ability for most of the harmony versions would not be worth the 10p - in most cases, the chaotic version is only marginally cheaper in terms of the resource, so you might as well go for the chaotic version and take advantage of ignoring the malus. It also depends on how easily you can gain it via the two types of drinks, of course.

There are a couple of abilities that would be nothing short of completely amazing to use with the trans ability, though. Adaptiveflux becomes mindbogglingly superb with it, and crypticflux would be completely awesome... though zarakido guys don't have an insanity/timewarp insta it seems, so it's only useful in a group.

Will defenses being only one at a time is good for balance-  I expect precognitivewill to be the premium PvP will, though. Being able to cast some of the fluxes faster is going to make it easier to hit with kata, which will, when combined with precognitivewill, make it even easier to get flow.

The way fluxes work is basically a time-limited defense, right? Some information on how long each lasts would be good - I suspect the most appropriate places to balance this skillset will be to tweak how long the fluxes last in accordance with how fast flow can be gained and how powerful said fluxes are. There's a lot of potential for this to be a strong, passive type skillset that meshes decently with a kata based offense, that's very nice.

Fluxes cost a lot of flow, and seem to last until toggled off. Or, presumably, once you exhaust your flow, which can be pretty quickly. I also see AttitudeFlux Chaotic as being really, really good for influencing.

    image
  • Hrm? So it's on a tick basis, where every few seconds it draws the flow cost to maintain the effect throughout? Mmm, that works the same, I guess. I assume switching off fluxes don't cost balance, at least?

  • Afaik many of the eflows are off of bal/eq!

    image
  • So how all of the flux ones work is that they can be switched between harmonic/chaotic/off for free at any time other than when stunned, prone, and maybe a few other things. The flow cost is taken when the actual effect triggers. So for example, with AdaptiveFlux if you anticipate a large hit like meteor you can switch it to harmonic just before it hits to get a 25% reduction in damage for 30% flow and then turn it off right after. However, if you leave it on and get newbiepunched it'll still trigger and take another 30% flow.
  • I am loving these ABs. Very cool.
The cool night-time breeze shivers in the arid caress of the streets of the capital city, brushing the earthen taste of dust across your lips.

Pinprick points of light twinkle in the deep black overhead, their brightness full of a cold,
    hungering malice.
  • Also, one thing to note about zarakido is that while a lot of the actions are fast/free bal, they cost a fairly large amount of mana, some 500. If you toggle them off and on pretty rapidly you'll feel it.

  • Mmm, that sounds a lot harder to use than I first envisioned. What about moodflux and eccentricflux? Do they just keep blocking affs until you're out of flow?

Flow control seems fairly difficult like this, and toggling things on and off constantly is probably going to be a pain. In fact, the default use of these will be to toggle them off for very specific counters, and then off again asap. On the bright side, if there are 3p messages, it means opponents can conceivably exploit it to rapidly drain flow from a careless, or prone, zarakido user.

  • Yeah, moodflux and eccentricflux will drain flow every time the effect fires.

I agree that it looks difficult to master and will probably require much more micromanagement than most people are willing to do.
  • Added this skillset to the wiki, making some guesses on syntaxes that got garbled.
  • Are the syntaxes like
    ENIGMATICFLOW|EFLOW AUGMENTEDMEMORY HARMONIC|CHAOTIC
presented with <> bracketing like the following?

    <ENIGMATICFLOW|EFLOW> AUGMENTEDMEMORY <HARMONIC|CHAOTIC>
  • CyndarinCyndarin used Flamethrower! It was super effective.

    1) Poor stealth. Going from distant second to distant third is tough.

    2) I'm not entirely sure I understand how all of this works. However, resource management inevitably trends towards having easier access of that resource or more of that resource. Crow Carrion, for example, has trended towards availability as time passes. Basically it comes down to people want skills they can actually use. Given that, I would be skeptical of any arguments that are based around limited resource availability.

    3) Some of the Chaos maluses are weird. Enigmaticburst seems to be wacky for the sake of being wacky.

    4) How does the trans skill work? Is there a time limit or something? Some of these go from MEH to WTF once the chaos penalty is removed. Reducing someone's resistances to 0 turns even artie piles into smears on the ground.

    4) Really cool thematically, and seems super flexible. I don't think it will be as micromanaged as some are saying. Most of it is situational from the looks of it.

    5) OOOH NEW STUFF. SPARKLY.

I actually like the resource mechanic. Sipping a beer/tea specifically to raise your resource, on its own timer, and you can gamble to get more resource. There's even a skill to leech some resource as you hit things, for instance hunting. Granted, it's not enough to sustain things like AdaptiveFlux, but it's still nifty.

It has a 3 minute duration.
  • Resource management focused on input versus output seems fine, like power management. Resource management that focuses on a binary of having or not having it is easily broken. Hunger attrition was terribly unfun and basically unbeatable for people who didn't carry around a shitload of food. If you did, it was trivial. If Flow is limited by a timer on how often you can sip, it doesn't seem like an issue to balance the skillset around that timer. And teas and beers being riftable makes it so much better. This kind of skill back in the day would have needed hundreds of vials and that would have SUCKED.
