What am I missing? Willpower regeneration.
It's taking an obnoxious amount of time to regenerate willpower after a 30 minute hunt. I had to meditate almost as long (26 minutes) as I spent hunting to regen to full.

Using cosmicfire as my hunting attack
Up to masochism in Discipline (which I think helps will regen?)
So the question is, what am I doing wrong to either make willpower drop so fast or take so long to regenerate?

Frankly, I had the same problem on my mage alt. You could get a rocking chair to regenerate it quicker, I suppose, and/or a willpower regen room, but that's how it is.

Yeah, "that's how it is" sums it up. To solve your problem, get a higher level. The higher your cap, the more time it has to regen before it runs low, making it take even longer to run low, etc.
Not sure if discipline helps willpower regen. Never heard that before, but I guess it might make sense, and work like how the other IRE games' philosophy miniskill does.

HELP DISCIPLINE says it helps willpower regeneration, so yeah, that's one way to go at it.
A higher level won't really do much though. Yes, you have a bigger pool, but it won't shrink slower just because the pool is bigger (unless the passive gain is relative to the size of the pool?), so all it does is allow you to hunt for an hour and regen for an hour instead of just half an hour.
One thing I just thought of though is the origami. Can't remember if it's wetfold that heals willpower, or if that also falls under kirigami, but that does help you get willpower back when it fades, at least.

Your best friend right now will be kirigami. When you use it, an hour later it will refresh half your willpower. And in the interim will provide you with 5 defense and offense dmp, and increased critical hit chance.
I'll look into getting a rocking chair for the Institute, but for now, ask around on CT if anyone has one available.
Another thing you can do is pace your bashing a bit more. Do some bashing, then something else, like collecting bards/scholars, or reading, then bash a bit more, etc. Hunting in a group could help a lot as well, to clear an area a lot faster/efficiently.
Longer term, attaining levels and Discipline will help you the most.

Here's a direct copy from HELP DISCIPLINE:
I don't know if that means it actually pulses faster but a quick test showed that my meditate pulses every 6 seconds and regens 20 willpower per pulse.
Willpower Gem (100 credits)
- Turns a room to a Willpower Regeneration Room
- One use, then disappears
- Use ACTIVATE <gem>
What race are you, Kandus? I'm not logged in at the moment.
They do not (Talan and I tested it a while back).
Kirigami gives you half back of what you've lost, as Ssaliss stated. It's very useful.
I believe Gaudiguch has the Chessboard right now, so you can touch that once per RL day for a full endurance / willpower refresh.
Use things like the Kingdom enchant to reduce how much you clot; clotting added to regular bashing spam eats through willpower fast at lower levels.
Unfortunately, things like Discipline's regeneration are based off of total lessons invested and not on rank... so you would need to invest many more lessons to see any real difference.
When all else fails and you are truly desperate, just run into a gravedigger pit or a room of cavefishers / snow cats and let them eat you. Just arrange for someone to immolate or revive the body (I'm guessing you don't have a homunculus). I don't remember if a vitae death restores endurance / willpower.
