Not entirely a 'real world' rave, but my friend who is DMing the DnD variant game I'm playing in let me remort with a modded class. Though I had to take some nerfs from the Rules As Written (one of which more than halved my build's hp), the character should now be a LOT more fun to play. Wheeee
My husband has taken one for the team and is babysitting on his own while I get a weekend by myself at the beach. I am caffeinated, filled with bacon, have books, internet, control of the remote, a view of the water and chocolate. Bliss.

I have cable and internet again! Granted, it's not HD cable (they don't even have that this far north), but I get NBCSports, so I can watch a few hockey games.
Of course, whoever put this house together didn't think things through... there was a cable hookup in the living room, in the kitchen, and in the bedroom. So not in either room that could be an office, meaning my desktop has to rely on a wireless instead of wired signal. And while my wireless signal reaches this room with no problems, my Linux distro and my wireless card don't get along. I'll probably end up buying a new wireless card.

Because part of my income is commission, which is taxed much more heavily than my hourly wage (including my 5k relocation package), my tax return this year is much bigger than expected. Plus the money I have already saving to move in July + get a new computer....which means....
I will actually have a new computer soonish! Now I just have to decide on which Lenovo I want.

I will probably be screwed next year when I do my taxes....I'm waiting to hear back on a job that should start at 40-43k a year. Which is nice, because it will be in Vegas with a low cost of living. The bad part is that I will not have any deductions or credits to qualify for, and I'm single with no kids......it's gonna burn.
For my rave, my first horizontal driver's license(age 21+) came today.....and I'm 24.....

Here you can get tax deductions for certain kinds of savings accounts. I have a retirement account, you do get taxed up front because it is an income generator, but it gets offset when you file your taxes to motivate people to get one. And honestly, these days you want to be doing that, because what retirement you build up through working is shit even in a very well-paying job.
US people, I recommend looking into Ramit Sethi's book "I will teach you to be rich", he's got good advice on the finer details. I simply applied what of it is relevant to the EU way of things. You can start off with very little money, he also offers great advice for getting out of debt, so it is a book for everyone really.
