General Dissatisfaction

@Tarkenton Sorry man, I'm going to have to disagree with you.  (granted we both live in completely different countries, but here's my POV)

Not everyone can afford to run a full-size car with how petrol prices are these days.  In New Zealand, 91 octane unleaded petrol costs a whopping $8.20 per gallon, meaning a standard sized car can easily go through over $100 of petrol in a week of running from A to B, FAR out of the budget of some, if not most university students in an economy where minimum wage here is $13.75 an hour, meaning that if you run a car, you effectively need to work at least 8 hours just to fill up your vehicle.  Buses are unreliable to say the VERY least, running extremely late quite often, if they even arrive AT ALL, meaning that the only other option for them is to use something like a bicycle or moped. (Vaguely related, but students that get a student loan or allowance here are only allowed to earn a set amount a week ($208 before tax - basically 15 hours work), then it starts getting taken out of your loan/allowance at a rate of $1 for every $1 you earn - so there is an absolute ceiling that university students can have per week to make ends meet - If you are on a student allowance there is no point in working over 15 hours per week since every dollar you earn is taken from your allowance in turn, meaning you are technically shooting yourself in the foot.)

I've seen some situations where people have tried to organise carpooling, but it can be very difficult to organise unless you find a group of people that have to travel in and out at almost the exact same time as you.

  • That's eerily similar to the gas prices over here. We have a cost of ~$8.12 per gallon. So from what I've gathered on the web, about twice that of the US.

That said, I think the dissatisfaction wasn't actually with the idea of mopeds or cheaper/mini transportation... it was more going 20mph+ under the speedlimit (which is actually illegal-ish in some places, iirc).

EDIT: Wow, your gas prices are high, is that USD? If it is, drool $13 minimum wage. I work a ceritified position (not a degree-based one, but one that requires two months of 8 hours a day training and clinical practice) for base pay of $9.75 an hour, and my pay already went up 50c.

    No, that is NZD.  At current exchange rates, 1 NZD = around 0.82 USD - so $13.75 = around USD$11.40 - $8.20/gallon = USD$6.79/gallon

Side note:  Tipping is not a common practice in NZ, hence the higher base rate.

  • Oh. So we've got pretty much everyone else beat when it comes to gas prices :(

  • Yeah, Sweden is easily in the top 12 for highest petrol prices in the world, with Turkey currently topping the charts by a considerable margin.

I felt the same way after Season 1 of it and after Season 1 of Orange is the New Black, but Season 2 of Orange is the New Black is coming up in a few months.

This.   I'm fine with people trying to save money(esp those who have no choice).  I'm not fine with self-righteous people who don't give a **** if they hold up traffic behind them.

I am completely behind efficient transportation.  I used to ride a bike a lot, and I made a point of planning my routes so that I would not be a traffic hazard.  In Las Vegas, going the speed limit is likely to get you killed by the stupid frakkers that believe that anything under 15+ over the speed limit is intolerable.  I make a point of driving in the right hand (slow) lane, because I obey the speed limit.  But when I nearly get rear-ended twice on the same driving trip because of a frakking moped...I get a bit irritated.

Also, been on a BSG kick, so yeah.  :D

Only driving I have ever done in the States was in the Hollywood and Anaheim areas primarily, when I went to visit some friends a good 6 years or so ago.  Thankfully didn't have too much trouble since I was primarily driving during off-peak periods.

Great. Someone spray painted my car window. I don't ever do a damn thing to anyone and spend most of my time to myself indoors. I don't live in a good area, but that's not something I can easily change at this current point in time. Things just keep getting more and more frustrating to deal with around here.

@Rivius: If your windows aren't tinted, a single edge razor blade (if it isn't a ton of paint) is probably your best bet.  Kerosene, paint thinner, or white gas (the kind used in a campfire stove) can also work.  But my house painting uncle always just used to scrape things like that.  Make sure if you use a blade, it's a good, unbent, new one.  Afterwards, hang out outside, hidden, with a bat or a taser and take care of some punks.  :D

Wow, USA, you couldn't score a single goal in your last two games? What a choke. Which is ironic, given who the head coach is.
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

Damn, that's a cruel thing to do. The fuck is wrong with some people. Hope karma rebounds on the culprit.

Wow, in the world of being a prick that tops most stuff.

If you're going to use paint thinner etc to strip it, make sure you get some quality masking tape and cover the edges around your car window first, so you don't strip the paint off the bodywork.

That totally sucks. Sorry you have to deal with that.

I get you on that one.  Driving southbound on 95 in the morning can be a real joy.  I have no problem with going 5 over, but I don't want to attract much attention since I'm still running a temp. tag in the window.

The other day, I was on the interchange between southbound 95 and Summerlin Parkway, which is single lane.  I had some jackass in a Mini Cooper blast by me ON THE SHOULDER and cut me off.  Then he took off and merged onto Summerlin and almost took out a guy in the left lane.  I hate people.

Wife cleaned out the fridge last night, yay. Didn't tell me she did, didn't take it out trash, didn't ask me to. Walked into the house at the end of the day to a smell that nearly knocked me over. An hour later, and I still wanna hurl.

An empty fridge is truly a depressing thing. Many times I have opened the fridge door and all you can do is wait for someone else to fill it or go out and buy food for yourself, when you just wanted to make a sandwich or something. Sometimes, can't even make yourself a simple salad. Freezer? Maybe, but you'd have to cook anything savoury before it's edible, usually for a long time. I feel your pain :(

EDIT: There's always at least 3 bags to take down every time you go out it seems.
