  • Dodged getting sick thus far this winter, then woke up today in a world of pain thanks to an ear infection. Do not want. Immediate flashbacks of one years ago where I ended up on the ER as the pain led to sleep deprivation and me just crying and howling through the night. You know it is bad when the most heavy-duty painkillers don't dampen it any more.

    *hug* I know all too well how unpleasant ear infections can be :( I hope it clears up soon

  • It's better today, the pain is mostly gone, guess the antibiotics and eardrops are working their magic. Also when I was in the shower, my ear suddenly popped and I can hear a little bit again. Still going in for an appointment to have the ear looked at and cleaned though. Not taking any chances with this stuff.

  • Yeah, it's best to see a doctor.   I had an ear infection last month(picked up swimmer's ear in Hawaii) and it was hell on earth until I went to the doctor and got looked at.  Antibiotic eardrops provided a great deal of relief within a couple days, with the infection completely gone after a week.

    My mouse is kind of broken, I put it back together as best as I could, except I've no clue how to put back a piece that lets me move the cursor and there's 0 help to be found on google. I've had this thing for less than a month :\ I need to find the warranty paper and possibly ship it back to get a replacement.

    Mouse fixed.

    Waking up in the hospital. But on the note of a rave, I've been prescribed wine!

    Tempted to like for the alcohol content of your post.  But then I feel like I'm liking the hospital trip, and that's something of a mixed message.

    Any agrees to your quoted post, I will count in my head as a like for the prescription of alcohol.

    More curios that you need to spend RL money to get?  Really? -_-

    (And yes, I know that people will say that you can get the curio pieces off people that buy them by using credits, but realistically, the chances of getting all the pieces that you need exclusively through the in-game credit system before the promotion ends are pretty small, especially considering you only get 3 pieces for every 100 credits you purchase.)

    That's what happens when corporate makes game decisions. Nevermind that the tide has turned against curios, where the players finally agree that they are too much and need to be toned back. All corporate sees is SHINY BRING MOAR PEEPS TO PAYZ MONEYZ.

    I feel sorry for Estarra and the admin who are trying to design and create an excellent game, and all IRE is concerned about is being the EA/Activision of MUDs and squeezing every last penny out of it.
    Yeah I usually do not play corporate-style MUDs for this very reason. It's usually much better on the amateur/indie ones where you can only advance by playing the game because they don't ask for money (Probably just some donations every now and then, as is reasonable). Everyone also seems a lot happier because it is more balanced and the admin focus on the game itself, not money.

    (Not mentioning the fact that the whole curio business is just another example of something which may make novices feel stupid for not knowing about them)

  • I'd feel more inclined to pay money if I knew my money didn't go to stupid things like curios. I understand the game has to make money, and for that I am glad I have the membership as it is a great deal for both parties, but when I say this month's promotion I'm like nope I will wait another month for something that actually interests me. So, eh, yeah :/

    At least this curio isn't a huge combat imbalance, like the genie curio sets. I'm generally okay with fun/toy curio sets. On the other hand, I don't find them an enticing bonus for buying credits, because you have to buy SO MANY to realistically stand a chance at completing the curio, and it's all-or-nothing, basically.
  • TarkentonTarkenton Traitor Bear
    Agreed with the above. I'd been planning a credit buy for the last few months, and wakabi tickets didn't interest me so I waited until yesterday. Got credits, lucked out and got all the pieces I needed for the pot. Yay good fortune, I suppose.

    I maneuvered to have today off, but an essential part of that is now taking medical leave for a few weeks and no one mentioned it until right now.

    EDIT: Hah, got the details. She was basically forced into unpaid medical leave for the foreseeable future due to corporate wankery, and will have to find another job until she has her baby (and she's still in the first trimester).

    Looked back over the past 12+ months and this is how the promotions ended up

    Feb 2013: Curios (Heart)
    March 2013: Curios (Leprechaun pot)
    April 2013: Presents
    May 2013: Auctions
    June 2013: Curios (Treasure Map)
    July 2013: Curios (Bubble)
    August 2013: BFF credits
    September 2013: Dingbat promotion (Manse Marvel artifacts)
    October 2013: Dingbat promotion extended
    November 2013: Credit sale - bonus credits
    December 2013: Curios (Genie)
    January 2014: Curios (Red Heart/Leprechaun Pot/Treasure Map Redux)
    February 2014: Wakabidrome
    March 2014: Curios (Leprechaun pot 2.0)

    Granted it is not as many as I thought, 7 out of the past 13 months were curio-related promotions.

    It may "only" by 7, but compare it to the others:

    Presents = 1
    Auctions = 1
    Wakabidrome = 1
    Credits = 2
    Dingbats = 2
    Curios = 7

    So, compared to everything else, curios have been WAY overdone.

    To be honest, I like the new curios. I think they're aimed towards people who like collecting shiny stuff; however, they are quite costly, but I guess that's totally understandable. :)

    Isn't most curio just 'shiny stuff'?

    Too many of them are shiny + combat advantage. If curios were just shiny collectibles that didn't impact the game, yeah, sure, have a million of them. But they keep releasing curios that buff, so they are no longer just "shiny stuff".

    Bah. Relationships man. I'm currently being the go-between in the middle of a spat between two of my friends (boyfriend and girlfriend together). Yes, I know, therein lies danger, but damn it.

    Bleh, was pressed for time today so I had to drive to uni. Ended up taking almost 90 minutes to get there plus had to pay $16 for parking for the day. Ended up 20 minutes late for my lecture.

    Poor thing. Get plenty of rest. Dry toast and definitely keep fluids up. Don't get dehydrated.
