So I'm putting Qistrel into semi-retirement because I'm not having fun playing her. Basically, I don't like Seren politics these days, and I can no longer go hide in Icewynd all day and ignore it.
Which means I'm trying out alts. I kind of want to play a monk, because I played a Tahtetso a while back, and I enjoyed the kata skills and tattoo stuff. But I didn't like the whole lumosis thing, it's just not for me. Which leaves the illithoid guilds, Nekotai or Ninjakari. Nekotai sound fun, but I hear Glom is dead these days.
I tried out a Ninjakari, but I asked so many questions that people started looking at me oddly, and I got worried they'd behead me for insolence or something. Mags are scary.
Gaudigach seems a fun place. But they don't have monks, and I'm told they've recently become more snuggly that Seren. (Seriously, sometimes I wish Ackleberry would come back just so I don't have to deal with people licking me all the time.)
So anyone have a good suggestion?
Also, how do I deal with helpful novice helpers? Should I just say 'Hey, I'm trying this out, so I may not actually stick around, please don't give me free stuff or anything, but can I ask you a bajillion questions?'

First off, I'm sorry you aren't having fun playing Qistrel. It sucks, because she seemed really interesting and she's one of the people I had always wanted to get to know better.
Step 1. Don't just drop Qistrel cold turkey. If you have a cabinet/rack in a stasis gem'd room, or a manse shop, use it. Store all your stuff, vials/jewelry/pipes included if you have a shop, and basically anything else that might decay that you won't want to have to replace. Trust me, it's a pain. If you have cartels that others use, offer to let one of them trademaster for a while.
<insert placeholder here>
Step 2. Decide what guild sounds interesting. Don't go with what you're comfortable with! PIck something new, something you've always been curious about. Better yet, pick a guild with someone you don't like. Make it your mission to not only get to know this guild, but this person who generally rubs you the wrong way as Qistrel. Explore your new home, get to know people as this fresh and new person. Don't get monetarily or emotionally invested in this character.
Step 3. QQ and go back to the placeholder.
Step 4. Once you've done the above cycle a few times, decide which of your new "yous" are the most interesting, and play them a bit more. Maybe help with a domoth, take a mentor, invest some credits, gain a bit of rank in guild and org.
Step 5. Still like them? Great! If not, go back to Step 4 and pick another of your seeds.
Step 6. Profit.
There's an OOC clan, 'something monkish', I believe it may have helpfiles to help. Also remember you can ask on newbie and here. Monks can now teach katas, so reviewing a few of those might answer some of the questions you have.
There -are- a few people in Gaudi who are snuggly. It's generally a group of people who are snuggly with each other, and they won't be overly snuggly with you unless they think you don't mind. Just let people know you aren't a snuggler, and you'll be fine.
I'm wanting to play someone a bit violent who hunts a lot, and doesn't influence, because that's very different to Qistrel. Especially now that I a) have a nearly decent curing system and b) don't actually care if I die a lot. I'll go back and try my illithoid Ninjakari again. Or maybe an orclach monk, that seems interesting.
I guess I could try a pyrochemist. Wildewood annoys me because I like the idea (no demesne) but I don't want to be a tree-person and lose all Qistrel's pretty pretty charisma.
Step 5.5 - DON'T TELL PEOPLE WHO YOU ARE. Don't let your friends know so they can add you to their chat clan, don't tell your bestie, don't make the same friends again. Get new friends. Step outside of your comfort zone and befriend people you've never met.

...(Unless you're Taria'ing, then it's more of an ooc thing)
slim shadyShaddus in all of us, let's all stand up)the exceedingly few times I've gotten to interact with you, and I can say that the Nekotai rock from a rp perspective. Besides, new monk in glom? I'll smother you with helpfulness and attention.
And likely food.
Though Glom is only org where the specced race makes awesome monks. Which is pretty cool.
