This was a really stupid move on Celest's part. I'm not going to comment on the wisdom of Glom's actions (that would be a big enough derail that the Hawking radiation off the resulting singularity would fry my computer), just going to say that it was a really dumb move for Celest.
Well, they just made the following events much harder to win for themselves, if everyone starts swinging: domoths, revolts, wildnodes, and most importantly, Ascension and all related events.
So, I would say that as far as mechanically speaking, it probably was a stupid move to do so right before Ascension, IMO, they could have at least waited until that was squared away.
Pridewise? Not so much, I personally think it was for the best when it comes to reputation/morale.
And I'm not surprised that Equinox haters approve of the events, but then again, a lot of them expect that Equinox breaking up would magically fix everything that's wrong with their orgs.
Pretty sure Equinox refusing to budge for over two RL years was a pretty deciding factor in the ability to alter alliances in the game, which is the change I was referring to. Anyway! Not getting into that argument! Time will tell what happens now. Maybe nothing much. Maybe lots of things shifting. Either way, it could be interesting.
Personally i would love to see the old ideological based alliances of celest/seren and mag/glom back together and seeing how hali/gaudi work into them. Prolly celest/seren/hali and mag/glom/gaudi.

We don't hate Gaudi too much, at least I don't. The main problem is the divine pantheon seem to be set on keeping them as enemies, they wont let me be unenemied for instance...
The game lore for Gaudiguch and Hallifax is that their disagreement is a political and ideological one, ala the US vs the USSR. And, as a result, it can be politically resolved in game. A Gaudi-Halli ceasefire agreement makes as much sense IC as the START and SALT treaties did OOC. More, given that the Paradox-Crucible interaction resulted in the complete loss of the entire population of both countries. And it works mechanically too: if Gaudiguch and Hallifax both agree that they're not going to fight, then Paradox and Crucible don't get used anymore (non-citizens cannot start the process) and there's nothing anybody outside the alliance can do about it.
That's debatable, isn't it? Even without the Operation Crucible in the picture, the Lucidians and Dracnari have been portrayed in ways that could easily lead to intepretations of them being racially prejudiced against each other, not just in the histories, but also in some of the quests/areas of the game. I guess it's a little of a stretch, but still an acceptable one, to say that the logical vs passionate way of lives the two cities lead is an ideological one tied to their cities and ancient demographics, but it's also not much of a stretch to go the other way and tie it to the Lucidians and Dracnari.
OOC wise, it's can also be argued that it is enriching and exciting from a player point of view to have two races that appear similar at first (basking in the sun, natural daytime regeneration) but which are so opposed to each other in their actions and their philosophies. But yeah, basically, it's possible to go either way with the argument, though the status quo makes an alliance something that is much more unlikely than continued enemyship.
I feel like the Gaudi/Halli fight is similar to the Dwarf/Troll fight in Disc World, Isn't there some debate about if Tzariko was lucidian or dracnari? Everybody blames the other for striking first.
It is something that with just a little bit of trust could be resolved for a long time because it's just centuries of misunderstandings and misattribution.
However, as a proud Hallifax, they're going to have to be understanding FIRST (this is a joke, to the people that inevitably would troll me.)
Zvoltz has a cool new realm, though wandering through it made me wonder if the Pearl Sandals help with moving through them at all, since most of it seemed to be cloudy urban.

In my personal opinion, just because the conflict between Hallifax and Gaudiguch isn't based around the mechanical existance of Taint/Wyrd vs Light/Nature doesn't make it any less deep or as easy to just push aside. I see the way of life in Gaudiguch and Hallifax as mutually exlusive. Gaudiguch has that freedom thing going on and Hallifax is grotesquely oppressive and willing to sacrifice the individual for the greater good (look what they did to poor Elostian!). That's on top of the racial tensions over Tzaraziko which have been going on since before the modern age! The conflict between Zvoltz and Mysrai also adds a layer of religious animosity into the mix.
Opposing orgs have worked together in the past, certainly, but I don't think it's as simple as "Let's agree to disagree and be friends!"
Not as eloquent as Eventru, but those are my personal thoughts on the topic.

Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.
