I like a lot of those ideas, they don't seem over the top. Just decreasing the gold chance in favour of changing into another curio, and a small (5%?) chance of splitting into two curios would be neat. Something to help completing curios rather than…Check out Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf, FireStar, etc. These books were popular in the 80s, with all kinds of variations.That would make all curios effectively into two just types, common and rare. Everything else would just be a matter of keeping on rubbing.
