No, the game has gotten a lot smaller since then. We don't have 50 players per org at primetime anymore. Probably closer to 100 total. When your pool gets shallower and spread thin, the ripples get felt further and stronger.

Wanting to make a target of me makes sense, I'd be easy to push at this point.

I'm all for crit bonuses, just because I want to see what super high/near 100 crit%s look like. Realistically it'd only be able to do probably 0.5-1.5% though, so maybe something else? (Universal damage buffs? Sip bonus? Dragon milk production?)
