  • Zagreus has a surprise before the beginning of games in the arena, he takes to the top of the not-yet-complete clock tower, where people and cats have been known to be blown off and into the Megalith.

    Dangerously-high upon the girders.
A sense of frigidness is made physical as an icy blue haze extends into the area from a shield shrine of Raezon nearby. Heavy hailstones smash down upon everything around you. Scaffolding surrounds the lower level of the tower but here, above the ground, there are only the iron columns and girders to travel upon. The iron frame of the building is on full display here, jutting into the sky as a testament to the Engine's engineering prowess. Additional beams are being laid down here and riveted into place by ironworkers while the flooring crew works on the lower levels. An assortment of demonic beings mills around the upper floors - imps, demons, and even a solitary archdemon overseeing the work - providing support or hefting construction materials. An unhindered view of the city of Magnagora is visible in every direction, almost as if one were soaring over it. The dark towers of the Necropolis to the west sit level with the skeletal edifice, and beyond them, there are only the tumultuous dark waters of the Sea of Despair. To the north and south, Magnagora thrives with many a storefront and manor, while to the east, the stained glass dome of the theatre reflects the smog-streaked sky and the Silent Cathedral looms behind it upon a hill. The air is filled with the scent of soot and smoke pumped into the air from the haze-wreathed industrial quarter stretching to the southeast. A statue of Ixion stands here, memorialising his noble spirit. With a graceful countenance, a graceful swan graced with velvety wings of blush-pink glides through the air here. Rakkan, the Crowned Jackal sits here, watching disdainfully. A stunning fiend stands here, playing with her hair. Wreathed in cold flame and an aura of inclemency, a towering woman hovers imposingly, the symbol of Binah shining in her left eye. Eyes gleaming with daring, a Horizon Walker stands here armed and ready to face the vast unknown. Somnolent billows of dove-grey fog obscure the lingering form of a mistwaif clad in vestiges of the night. He is surrounded by a deflection bubble. Clothed in starry robes of Void-spun brocade, a Merchant of Thelem waits here. A tremendous emerald and onyx hydra with wings of coruscating black flame looms here, five heads snapping viciously. He is surrounded by a deflection bubble. Dilettante Danalnys is here. Warlady Kailanna n'Kylbar, Matriarch of Jackals stands here amid a teeming pool of viscid carmine blood. She wields the Choir of Anguish in her left hand and a tassle-adorned crimson silk parasol in her right hand.

    Kailanna raises an eyebrow questioningly.

You shift your eyes suspiciously from side to side.

    Sulwh glances askance.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Unfortunately I was resting during the opening ceremonies, but I have some very special announcements to make."

Kailanna tilts her head and listens intently.

Zagreus pulls out a ceremonial scroll from a secret compartment within his fullplate armour.
Uzriel tilts his head and listens intently to Zagreus.

Strong winds buffet the iron skeleton of the tower dangerously, stealing away anything not nailed down.

Zagreus clears his throat in an attempt to gain everyone's attention.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Hear ye hear ye. Today we gather together in undeath to honour many things. First, I salute the fellow cogs, the ur'lifeblood of the Engine, who work tirelessly year after year to victories countless, and successes myriad."

You have emoted: Sapphira slips a hand into the crook of Uzriel's arm and holds tight.

Zagreus gives the world a smart salute.

Necrochemist Uzriel d'Vanecu, the Demagogue of Dissonance thinks to himself: I'll laugh if somebody gets blown off during the announcement.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Next, we honour the DOMINATOR, the other Demon Lords, the Rock Lords, and other entities which are bound to us upon the Eternal Wheel of Death and Rebirth."

Zagreus gives the world a smart salute.

    You nod your head sagely.

Zagreus inhales sharply through a steel hydra snout, nostrils flaring to taste the air.

Lysandus gives the world a smart salute.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "And last but perhaps not least, we salute Warlady Kailanna. She has guided this city and kept her ever moving forward in transformation and progress. As a thank you, please accept this Iron Cross as a gift to commemorate the Bloodfaire. As you have lich-touched our lives, you may touch the cross to amuse yourself when the tiresome cogs grate upon the limits of your patience and sanity."

Kailanna gives a trillingly melodic laugh.

Zagreus proudly shows off a black-forged iron cross:
Black-forged metal caked with unmentionable substances forms this tall, x-shaped cross. Worked with images of twining demonic figures and wide-gaping skulls, the iron is thickly-worked and almost crude; smaller details reveal more subtle designs of blasphemous script and tales of horrific deeds lost to the mists of time. Sharp spikes, caked with blood, remain pegged to each limb as a testament to the true use of this piece. An aura of dread and pain clings to the metal, permeating the air with reminders of the agonies suffered upon the cross.

    Lysandus's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Your expression changes to one of obvious amusement.

You think to yourself: If I get blown off I’m murdering someone.

Accepting the cross with a smile, Warlady Kailanna n'Kylbar, Matriarch of Jackals says to Zagreus, "No doubt it shall be worn down quite swiftly. My thanks."

Teasingly, Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Kailanna, don't pretend you weren't green with envy over mine years ago. Touch the cross to activate it for us!"

A black-forged iron cross plants itself into the ground, limbs sinking deep and spreading thick shadows around its base.

With a wistful look on her face, Kailanna touches a black-forged iron cross.

Blood begins to run down the surface of the cross, bringing to life a welter of howling fiends and imps. At the centre, a slitted, demonic pupil opens, gazing with malevolent intent.
The cross unfolds further, exposing broad limbs studded with skeletal remains of previous victims. Yawning skeletons struggle within the grasp of the device, fighting fruitlessly to free themselves from thrall.

The cross stills and becomes solid abruptly, the victims dragged back inside by the vile forces within.

Voice muffled by his mask, Necrochemist Uzriel d'Vanecu, the Demagogue of Dissonance says, "Very nice, festive."

Zagreus taps his fingers together and murmurs, "Excellent..."

Danalnys startles, then grins, eyes glinting in fascination.

    Lysandus's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Chuckling softly, Warlady Kailanna n'Kylbar, Matriarch of Jackals says, "Oh yes, I will admit to a bit of envy indeed."

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Clearly the cogs are unimpressed, so we'll move on."
    Zagreus grunts noncommitally.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Next, at great personal expense I have obtained a gift for the city."

    "Oh?" Lysandus exclaims quizzically.

Kailanna tilts her head and listens intently to Zagreus.

You have emoted: Sapphira raises her brows.

You give a start as a loud pop echoes from Zagreus, followed by a cheerful profusion of darkly iridescent confetti swirling in the air and covering your clothes.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Behold, a newly constructed clocktower for the city!!!!! Touch the clock if you wish!"

An austere clock tower unfolds and stretches upward, four pairs of hands spinning wildly before settling on the time as a deep, ponderous ticking emanates from within.

    Kailanna blinks.

Zagreus pets an austere clock tower ingratiatingly.

You give a trillingly melodic laugh.

With a wistful look on his face, Zagreus touches an austere clock tower.

The hands of an austere clock tower suddenly rotate of their own accord, slowly revolving before picking up speed until little is visible save black, rotating blurs on each of the cardinal faces of the tower.

Faint trickles of oil seep from beneath an austere clock tower's faces as the clock hands whirr at an ever-increasing pace, small plumes of steam wafting upward to hang lazily about its apex.

    Sulwh giggles happily.

Abruptly, the hands still at the proper time, and an austere clock tower offers a single, plaintive chime, standing tall and austere amid a haze of whitish steam.

With a wistful look on his face, Lysandus touches an austere clock tower.
An austere clock tower offers sedate series of regular ticks, gears clicking away merrily within. The tower seems to stretch, however, and each tick grows slightly louder than the previous.

An austere clock tower begins to shake and rattle as each successive tick swells to a near-deafening report, sharp and loud as it snaps through the air.

Without warning, a spray of festive, multicoloured confetti bursts into the air above an austere clock tower with an almighty bang, fluttering down like brilliant snowflakes as the ticking returns to normal.

You reach out and touch an austere clock tower.
With much arduous ticking, the hands on an austere clock tower point up in accord, heralding twelve o'clock. However, instead of chiming, the bell inside gives a dull 'clink' followed by much rustling.

With a disgruntled grinding of gears, an austere clock tower seems to slump before a sharp bang sounds from within. Numerous tiny, smokelike bats emerge in a fluttering cloud from its eaves, circling about before dispersing.

Strong winds buffet the iron skeleton of the tower dangerously, stealing away anything not nailed down.

Voice muffled by his mask, Necrochemist Uzriel d'Vanecu, the Demagogue of Dissonance says, "Ha! It's finally done!"

An austere clock tower seems to straighten itself, looming in a stately fashion as its bell rings true, resounding through the air.

With a wistful look on his face, Uzriel touches an austere clock tower.
As an austere clock tower obligingly whirrs and clicks, a small door opens in its eastern face, revealing two miniscule shapes wrestling each other upon one of the clock hands, clearly embroiled in a fierce battle.

An austere clock tower chimes the time in a series of deep, doleful notes, causing the larger of the two quarreling figures to lose its balance, falling from the apex of an austere clock tower with a soundless scream before dispersing in a puff of oily smoke upon hitting the ground.

A black-forged iron cross shudders, releasing a miasma of dread and pain about itself as it folds itself back up into a puzzleform configuration and returns to Kailanna's hands.
You laughingly say, "We have a clock once more, hurrah!"

Somewhat sheepishly, the surviving figure disappears into the tiny door in an austere clock tower's eastern face as it slides shut, while the faint propellor of a distant dirigible sounds briefly under the hour's toll.

In unison with the souls of the dead swirling around him, Legionnaire Kalas Lysandus, the Ashen One says, "Took them long enough."

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "After decades, it was high time we solved our own problems."

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "Bing Bong, unto eternity."

Musing, Warlady Kailanna n'Kylbar, Matriarch of Jackals says to Zagreus, "Well then, I suppose that means we will be making you the new city architect."

    Lysandus chuckles long and heartily.

You say to Zagreus, "A man who gets things done."

An austere clock tower unfolds and stretches upward, four pairs of hands spinning wildly before settling on the time as a deep, ponderous ticking emanates from within.

    Eldrac's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Voice muffled by his mask, Necrochemist Uzriel d'Vanecu, the Demagogue of Dissonance says to Kailanna, "Firing your own relative eh?"

With a slight shrug, Warlady Kailanna n'Kylbar, Matriarch of Jackals says to Uzriel, "He clearly needs a bit of a vacation."

    Lysandus's eyes sparkle with amusement.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "All things are possible with enough motivation."
Lysandus nods his head in agreement.

Danalnys laughs and claps their hands together.

Kalas Zagreus, the Devouring Blade says, "And now we move to the arena events!"
