^ a little outdated since the overhaul now, but this is a basic and free curative system.
For basic combat, you'll want to look into Vadi's m&m for your defense so you can focus on your offense. I can put you in touch with a former Harbinger who also optimized his system and layout for bard combat (though it's Shadowbeat and Glamours themed, since that is what he was), for the offensive portion.

GUIs I've used and loved:
TarxUI: This is the one I currently use, because I was able to get the tabbed chat working. Easy to download, easy to install, looks good, and free.
Syrennia's GUI: This is the one I used to use. I think it looks little better, but the tabbed chat stopped working when I had to reinstall my profiles, and I couldn't get it working again (I don't know what I broke). You'll need to contact Syrennia to get it, and there may be a credit charge.
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

Pony power all the way, yo. The more Brontaurs the better.
Honestly, my recommendation is to go in with as minimal a GUI as possible. You want something that displays the map in a less intrusive/invasive/massive way than base Mudlet function, a chatbox of adequate size, and possibly a box for some kind of timer.

I think I sent an email... I'll have to check.
I do use different GUIs depending on what I need, so I still have it for when I want to use it again.

I don't really check my e-mail, unless I'm expecting something / told to check it. But I can't see any. Messages are usually better for me, since if I'm not online I'm still -usually- logged into the Firefox extension.
Here's a not quite perfectly tested, alpha version of what I've been working on. I highly highly HIGHLY recommend making a new profile, installing m&m to it, then installing this package. Not responsible for your profile breaking if you install this to your main profile. That being said, TarxUI 0.9a is go.
known issues: mobs in room box isn't scrollable. Have to re-write it to be a minisconsole instead of a label. Also looking at making it tabbed, having mobs in room and items in room available as two different tabs. Chat box doesn't resize. Have to poke at that. Bottom right doesn't actually do anything. I have plans.
