I have maybe a little bit unique of a perspective to offer in terms of IHC IC/OOC.
Seren leadership has had a lot on their OOC plates. When it came time to support someone for TA, Gaudiguch wanted to support Dys and Magnagora wanted to support Ixion, and Serenwilde was the tie-breaking vote. We voted together as a commune when we had a high enough population to have a semi-fair representation of what characters wanted, and while Ixion overwhelmingly won the vote, my character Lief was one of two to voice support for someone who wouldn't be undead. She noted that while she would fight for Creation and honor the alliance's wishes, since Serenwilde had the opportunity, she thought it would be best to support someone she could feel good about supporting.
IC, I'm not fully sure how she will react to someone undead gaining TA, but I am OOC hopeful the event will make it make sense to call on Ixion. OOC I am thrilled the admin are willing to look at everything that happened and decide that the numbers were incredibly close, both sides were really good and had prepared quite a bit, and while Parhelion won and his alliance came out tops, it really is difficult to know the outcome had the lag been even half as bad. Even if we all had been fighting in the same lag I experienced early on, which was maybe around 5sec lag instead of the minutes+ that was experienced.
So many players on our side really were crushed by the outcome more than usual because of the lag. This is a lovely morale boost and I'm not sure how it OOC takes away from the winning side. I am 100% sympathetic to the IC, as again, I'm not sure how Lief will react. But I really do feel that OOC it is a phenomenal gesture that our current admin will take responsibility and work to improve it for next year.
Maybe giving Parhelion a special honour line or rp perk would make sense rather than trying to take things off ixion. Give him something a little extra to honour being the first (i assume before the admin realised just HOW crippling the lag was).
You are now asking me to answer the question 'what is X+ 5?' and I'm replying 10 and you're trying to tell me that it's 15.
We're operating from different bases and we're never going to agree unless we're at the same starting point.
The game lagged, yes and it's all but certain it had an effect on the end. It's been stated by both sides that it was coming down more to luck than skill.
Parhelion and Glom/Celest/Halli ended up the first to 3600, but we don't know if that was because of lag or if it was because they earned it. We also don't know if Mag/Gaudi/Seren lost because of lag or because they were outplayed. It's up in the air. Nobody knows (and we'll never know).
This lag wasn't either sides fault, it was our fault. We should have anticipated it, maybe tried tests. I don't know, the bottom line is we failed and everybody suffered for it. We don't view it as one side won and one side lost - we view it as everyone lost.
So when we consider our decisions on what to do to make it the most fair for both parties, it comes down to really two options - we either remove Parhelion as TA (and neither side gets one) or we raise Ixion (and both sides get one). We decided to not remove Parhelion and instead of raise Ixion. No bonus, no extra, just a TA for both sides.
This wasn't a 'let's reward one side' situation and you keep trying to construe it as that. This was a 'what is the fairest outcome for all sides.' situation. The decision we arrived at is this - Glom/Celest/Halli get to have the TA that they fought for, Mag/Gaudi/Seren get the TA that they fought for. They both get the goal they were trying to accomplish.
It's just not going to fly to me as a 'fair deal' to give one side two TA's because our initial decision was intended to make it fair for both sides by giving both sides one TA. Having two TA's to one TA puts us in the same situation as having one TA to zero TA's. Each side getting one TA is a pretty fair and equal solution.
I won't say that there isn't anything else we're willing to do, but I haven't really seen any solution that comes across to me as more fair -for everyone- presented here.
So, I've let curiosity get the better of me and scanned a few pages of this thread. I wish people would just leave it well enough alone. Here's my idea that piggybacks off some other ideas.
This Saturday, Magnagora raises Ixion as VA, which is well earned not only given his hard work in the Ascension but his time and service to the Engine. A wild backlash of power from Avechna, stemming from the "points" Ixion earned during Ascension, refunds the amount of power used to raise him in its entirety.
The admin get to roleplay it out.
IHC get an ascendant, and let's be serious, one unlikely to ever be lowered. If they do, it's a crapton of free power.
