Classflexing Cons

I was just discussing some classflex things with some others and was asked about Aquachem. If someone wants to classflex into the Aquas and go Aquachem (fine by me) but the only problem I can see to that is that the cubes used to make reagents is located on the ship upon Water, an extension of the Aquamancers Guildhall. How is someone, let's say a Celestine who classflexes to Aquachem, supposed to be able to enter the ship to purchase the cubes for their reagents since they cannot enter the ship. I understand that an Aquamancer could lead them to where they need to go, but that could be problematic if there are no Aquamancers around that can lead them there.

Another thing that I noticed (and this is if I decide to classflex) the Astrolabe in Celest is located inside the Celestines guild hall (Which I would classflex to Astrology Celestine). How would I be able to use the astrolabe if there are no other Celestines able to escort me. Would I just have to purchase the artifact astrolabe to get around that or possibly ask for it's relocation?

  • I thought cubes were basically only shortcuts for reagents, and that essence (in your case, the water essence) can be used for it as well?
    image
  • ahh yeah, didn't think about the essence, my bad on that part (been forever since I've had to make reagents)
  • Also, re: astrolabe, the positions of the planets and whatnot are perfectly calculable given a time and date, and I'm sure there is a system for it for your client somewhere.

It does drift a little, people with calculation systems tend to like to check them every so often, I think.

EDIT: IIRC, at least. I think it had something to do with code being patched in making a time difference or something.
  • I haven't noticed any drift in my astrology tracker, at least. Then again, I don't really do combat, so odds are I wouldn't notice a small difference...

Astrolobes are also manse purchasable and I think maybe an artifact? So there are options, I'm sure there's a public astrolobe somewhere. And might be something cities/communes will want to buy since the skill isn't directly tied to a guild exclusively.

I think this kind if inconvenience should just come with the territory for guild flexers. You're not actually in the guild, so if you can't get an escort to use their amenities, oh well?
    I used to make cakes.

Estarra the Eternal says, "Give Shevat the floor please."
  • Astrology doesn't drift relative to Lusternia time and date. Mine doesn't anyway.
  • If your numbers are right, Astrology doesn't drift.
Please note: I deliberately play a very flawed character. Just because he says or does something, does not mean I agree with it. He's a bit of a <censored> really
  • @glevich They can enter a ship (or other chem platform?) they just need to be following someone who has access. Aren't all the items riftable? If so you could set up a guild shop and maybe profit a bit off of them.

Also, I never really checked, but I was always under the impression that the observatory could be used by astronomers and that the guild items were a convince?

Lastly, you could possibly talk your patron to allowing non-enemy guildflexers entrance into your guild (if you wanted to go that far).

There's not any real reason someone would want to classflex Aquachem anyways.

  • As has already been said, -chemancy reagents can be made directly from elemental essence you bash up on your elemental plane. The cubes are just a shortcut.

Cities and guilds can also talk to their patron to see about adding an astrolabe.

QFT.  The Celestines have had an Astrolabe in their guildhall for a LONG time now.

The Celestines have an astrolabe because they have Astrology as a class skill, and therefore your statement doesn't address the question at hand.

It's doubtful that guilds that do not have Astrology in their repertoire will want to spend credits on facilities that no one with their guild's skills can use, but orgs might be convinced, if it's not too expensive. Of course, every guild that gets Astrology already has an astrolabe available to them, and wouldn't therefore gain any additional use from a public astrolabe, so it's a big expense for a really niche group, especially with the really high costs/restrictions on classflexing.
  • Just use the Astrolabe in Deepnight.

  • For some reason I want to say that the Shadowdancer one is public, but I think I might be wrong since I've only ever wanted to go up there on my Shadowdancer anyway.

    Party at the Shadowdancer's astrolabe.

  • It is public. Don't ask how I've gotten to see it before.
  • There is a publicly accessible astrolabe in the tower by the Feyranti Estate but it didn't work when I tried to Stargaze. I've never done the quest there so maybe it is just for that but I bugged it anyways just in case.

    because you're Shaddus.
A whisper from the trees and a frosty presence tells you, secretly, "But you are strong, little
flower, and wise." The voice shifts and expands, becoming more real. "And everything you just said
in the ritual made me feel safer. You should, too."
  • The SD astrolabe isn't public, actually.

  • Could've sworn it was. I know I saw one in a public place. I thought I did, anyway.

In that case, Glom currently has 2 astrolabes.

Nights Needle is at the top of the tower which leads to the astrolabe

  • You can only use the Nights Needle as an SD though. Plus, there's a connection from the SD GH to the Needle.

Wait it's not still at the top of the black tower? Or we're the only ones who can access it?
  • It's still at the top of the tower, yes, but only the SD can actually get to it. Anyone else touching the needle gets nothing.

Quite amused by the original post. What, they want to go Aquachem, so you can't go and buy the cubes for them (even if you don't want to lead them on the boat) yourself? Either you're afraid they won't pay you back... in which case, why are you letting these people classflex in your guild (If you can't trust them with 10k gold or so, how can you trust them with guild skills?) or you're just generally not a nice person, in which case there's a completely different problem involved.
