Interesting developments for those of us United Statesianese.  It seems the federal taxing authority (Internal Revenue Service) has made a decision regarding ``gold farmers''.  I doubt this comes up much in Lusternia (or any other Ire environment), but it certainly will impact those environments where item/character/service Rmt has a foothold.  Details are in the link.

Perhaps I spoke too soon.  Ire credits are directly purchasable for real currency from Ire.  They are also transferable to other players for virtual currency.  Are these ``gifts'' or ``sales''? Discuss.

I don't think that IG gold would be considered currency in the eyes of the IRS, but rather the credits, since it is much more realistic to assign a USD value to them.  

In practice, I think this will affect very few people in IRE.
