Recognising prompt numbers or GMCP?

So just made myself a bar to track my karma, which I used GMCP for. Currently my health/mana/ego bars work off recognising the numbers in the prompt when it is displayed, not using GMCP at all. Would it be better to switch those to GMCP too, or does it not make a difference?

My impression is that GMCP is faster and more reliable than prompt triggering, so if you've figured out how to utilize it for karma, why not go all the way with your other vitals? I'm sure the coders out there will have more compelling reasons.

GMCP is a lot easier to use because there's no parsing that needs to be done. When reading from your prompt, you have to parse the string into a number in order to be used. GMCP gives you the raw number.
