Edit: Blah whatever, not getting sucked into this rabbit hole. Xenthos is great at a lot of things. Glom cratered hard, however, and guilds have flatlined for ages and there are leadership lessons to learn from it, especially for new leaders.
And that is, pretty obviously, one of the really important lessons to being a leader! Sometimes people are going to disagree with you. Sometimes they will even malign you out-of-the-game. Will you make mistakes? Sure, of course you will, everyone does. It is important to learn from your mistakes, and otherwise let the complaining roll off you without sweating over it too much. Play the game to have fun, and to make it fun for others as well. Don't let people get you down just because they want to gripe (because people being people, there will always be some of that). Embrace the people who are enthusiastic and positive, encourage them, and you'll do just fine.

Alternatively, have fun but be open to criticism because it'll help you be better. If you dismiss criticism of leadership styles as malignant, spiteful, or personal, and only listen to those who tell you what you want to hear, you will make a much smaller impact, and sometimes a negative one. You have the choice between being a boss and being a leader, and one of the differentiators is that a leader doesn't discourage criticism. A boss will leverage authority to be right.
Being a guild/city leader does not earn you coints. The moment it stops being fun and turns into a job, drop the mic and walk away. And do not feel obligated to stay because there might not be anyone available to take the position. It's not your concern at that point.
Stand your ground. You are the GA of the Cough Drops. The GM of the ninjakari or champ of the the Nihilists could take issue with a guild law. Tell them to kick rocks. Constructive criticism and advice is okay but bitches be nosy and try to meddle. Or they think cause they are (insert name here) they have a say so.
