Can the stopped watch dingbat artifact be turned on and off?

Just a yes or no question for folks who have experience with it. As a follow-up, can you still see your own character's age in your honors or score?

According to Iorwen:
Putting it in your pack will indeed work, but you don't actually even need to go that far: All you need to do is stop wearing it and your age returns.

Did you try putting it in your backpack?  Most artifacts are disabled when you put them somewhere other than in your regular inventory.
