Do you have an interest in helping run Lusternia behind the scenes as a volunteer administrator? We are now opening applications for Ephemerals - administrators-in-training. If you are not sure what being an
Ephemeral entails, you can read the thoroughly updated HELP VOLUNTEERS for an overview. We also encourage you to check out the two most recent godblogs about life as an Ephemeral (lusternia.com/category/godblogs).
To apply for Ephemeralhood you must:
o Be 18 or over (that is yourself, not your character).
o Have played Lusternia for a minimum of 400 hours, total across all characters.
o Not be a volunteer administrator on any other IRE game.
o Be willing to give up your character and cut all connections with mortal player friends.
- As part of this, you will be required to quit all Lusternia-related Discord channels.
o Be willing to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
o Be mature and able to separate IC from OOC.
o Be able to work as part of a team.
o Be able to commit regular hours to working on Lusternia. There is no set minimum in hours, and when you choose to do your hours is up to you. But a good general estimate would be around 7h/week or 1h/day.
o Have sufficient creative writing skills to contribute to Lusternia's high-quality content.
o Be willing and able to work with Lusternia's scripting language known as prog.
- You will be fully trained on the job - the important thing is that you are willing and able to learn.
To apply, please send an email to support@lusternia.com with:
o Name
o Age
o Occupation & where you work, or if a student, what you are studying and where.
o Your character(s) in Lusternia and what they have achieved.
- This might include leadership positions you have held and what you accomplished in them.
- You are encouraged to note any mortal volunteer positions you have held, such as guide or mortal reviewer.
o Why you think you would make a good volunteer.
o What type of Elder Divine you think would best suit you, or if you are interested in an Architect position.
- You do not need to name specific roles but can do so.
- Naming a role at this point does not guarantee you will ultimately take up that role, it just gives us a guideline for the sort of role you think you are interested in.
- Naming a role, or not doing so, does not influence your chances in any way.
o A writing sample of five room descriptions, including both short and long description lines, so that we can gauge your writing skills.
- Be sure these are relatively fresh, not something written years ago.
- You can read HELP MORTAL BUILDERS for some tips on writing.
- These rooms can be examples of additions to existing areas, or whole new areas, or nonspecific.
- We recommend taking a look at existing rooms in Lusternia for further guidance.
o Anything else that you think we may want to consider in reviewing your application.
- This might include proven coding ability, experience in other MUDs, etc.
All personal information that you disclose (name, age, and occupation) will be kept private by Lusternia's producers. It is vital that you give this information accurately - please do not use pseudonyms or similar.
The deadline for applications is April 30th inclusive (across all time zones). After this date, we will contact selected candidates for interview, and then will take our chosen Ephemerals into the Havens. Please be aware that we will only respond to applications we wish to take further through the process, and that we expect to have far more applications than openings.
If you have any questions, please contact us at support@lusternia.com with your query.
Egg hunt or squirrel hunt? Either way, the devious duo that kidnapped baby squirrels from the Reserve appear to have unleashed them, now grown, upon the Basin of Life. Thrown overboard from the airships of the kidnappers, the squirrels have landed all over safely thanks to built-in parachutes. Many still float about, pulled by the winds.
If you come across a cage, be sure to PROBE it and then find a good spot to OPEN the cage so the squirrel can be rehomed. Each squirrel type likes a different tree-laden environment so don't be surprised if they are picky!
You will be able to assist in rehoming the squirrels from now until noon on Monday, 10th of April (server time). Why should you help the squirrels? Because they're adorable! Isn't that reason enough to vo- help them?
Earlier today, Lusternia was taken down as scheduled and our engine has been updated. Outside of a few edge cases, everything has been working as intended. We have our eye on the source of earlier complications and are working to patch it up throughout before further problems occur. If you cause an untrapped error, be sure to bug it immediately and, ideally, do not attempt the action again until your bug is resolved. Also, be on the lookout for any oddities surrounding curios.
I would like to invite you all to an experimental digital ride-along with me that will take place tomorrow. It will be hosted on a stage channel on our Discord server (see HELP DISCORD) but the ride-along itself will be text-based rather than voice-based. If you are unfamiliar with how stage channels work, the gist of it is that you join them and are auto-muted and cannot speak even if you wanted to. You become an audience member and you join/leave quietly. You can open text chat for stages the same way you would for voice channels, a button at the top right.
The event will start on March 12th at 5pm GMT (server time) and end at 2am GMT. It may last longer if necessary to wrap things up for the day. There will be short breaks for food and drink. As mentioned above, the event will be in text form rather than voice. There are two main reasons for that. One, you will be able to jump in and out throughout the day and not miss a beat, and two - my poor vocal cords!
Now, onto the content of the ride-along itself. I'd like to take you through an ordinary producer day. Sometimes I will be able to go into detail and other times I will need to be vague as to what is on my plate. Even so, I can discuss the process, the steps, and the findings or resolutions, and you can ask questions. There will naturally be pauses while work happens, but I will do my best to comment on things as I move along.
Provided there is no world-shattering disaster that Ealix needs to handle instead, he may join me at some point for a bugfixing session. If that happens, we'll switch to screensharing and voice. If not tomorrow, we'll instead livestream some bugfixing another time.
If you cannot or do not end up joining me tomorrow, the stage channel will still be there for you to read through. Hope to see you there!
