I'm not normally one to step up and talk, but since you brought it up, I 100% agree with your view on discord. I can't count the number of times I've had to console different people having rough experiences based solely (seemingly) off of discord interactions rather than IC ones, and the skewed view definitely does not tempt me to participate. It might leave you at some theoretical disadvantage, sure, but it's much easier to treat the game as just a game when you unplug completely at logout, and when nothing pertaining to the game happens outside of your direct game client. Jo would not be Jo if I played otherwise.Saz said:
A final advice from a pseudo-retiree, whose opinions shouldn't hold much weight:Disconnect yourself from discord channels, guys&gals. I understand that almost %99 of the current competitive/engaged playerbase is constantly interacting there, OOC. My personal opinion is that it's making everything worse simply due to the fact that the event itself and consequences/discussions around it are purely mechanical and never in character. So the frustrations are coming in players' directions instead of characters and that's removing a protective layer ("Oh, it's their character that's a jerk, not the player." ). Lusternia is a truly unique experience that you feel down when you lose, then you feel down again when you win. And it's been a hectic few weeks, but it has been for everyone involved and not just you. So you might want to keep your attitude in check, dear reader.
Please do not do anything yet. Do not retire. You have been the bigger person in all of this and Lusternia needs more people like you. Don't let the toxicity that is flowing drive you away. I have appreciated your standing up in what you believe in. You've been humble about it all from the start. You have requested the trash talking to stop and that means a lot to me. It blows my mind how severely toxic this place has become and we really need to stand our ground and drive THAT away. Not our good players.Parhelion said:My tone is because I've spent countless hours in Ascension, in an OOC Alliance clan you're not in, listening to people talk trash about all of the Gaudi/Mag people talking about retiring, or just walking away, or being demoralised in general. Well beyond "I'm sorry I didn't win", these G/M comments are heavily into "this is driving me away". These people in this Alliance clan, who I asked repeatedly to chill out and be graceful winners beyond a bit of strutting, are now doing the same thing and maintaining the same attitudes. Since then, I've heard various reports about people complaining about how it was all a long game and Parhelion is leaving for Magnagora, or Hallifax is joining back up with IHC, or any number of things along this line.Rancoura said:
Regardless, I agree that there was likely no resolution to this that would keep everyone happy -- my issue is more with Parhelion's tone in the first quote I posted above.
I posted what I did here with full intention of holding to it. If my opinion that Ixion deserves this Ascension, if not more, than I do pisses you off so much that you're willing to retire or quit, then so be it. At that time, people were more than welcome to let me know oocly in a tell or message, we could have snubbed each other, and I could have went about my way.
But it's worsened since then, partially in this thread. Like Malarious has said, it's obvious that this is more about keeping Ixion from ascending than it was ascending me, and part of me gets that. That doesn't mean I like it shoved in my face, or having people bitch about me in various places about how the admin should have had a game-wide vote, or asked the game in general. About how my ascension now means nothing, just because Ixion gets it too.
I cannot and will not be the reason people leave this game. I'm sorry. I've scheduled Parhelion and the rest of my viable characters for retirement for tomorrow. You can take this as a cry for attention, you can take this as a tantrum, you can take this however you want, because Lusternia's playerbase's opinion of me no longer matters to me. I'm taking twenty four hours to think on whether I want this to be my second home anymore. I've temporarily deleted my Discord account, and I'd appreciate it if people would just leave me alone in every way possible.
If you helped with Ascension, either on Ixion's team or mine, thank you for caring to continue our mission of keeping Kethuru at bay.
That is entirely up to the player. Did people show up to support Choros or oppose Ixion? Was the goal "Not Ixion" or "Raise Choros"? If you went with the goal of not Ixion, then yes, you "lost". If your goal was raise Choros, mission success.Rancoura said:Part of the intention of supporting a side in Ascension is also to prevent the raising of an Ascendant on the other side, is it not?
