It gets pretty frustrating though no matter who it is. I love getting to know new people, getting a feel for them, and then considering whether they would be a good fit for the family. Then I usually find out they were asked by another family within the first couple of hours after starting the game, and I wonder why I bother.
I feel the same way about adopting folks for my family. I've been pretty lucky lately, I've had people approach me but I usually lose out to other families.
Avurekhos says, "Dylara's a PvP menace in my eyes, totes rekting face."
The eye of Dylara materialises in your hands and flings itself around your neck, tightening incomprehensibly until it is irremovable. Perfectly clean, this eyeball has been wrenched from the socket of Dylara. It has been animated by some unusual force, constantly looking around itself as if in shock or fear. It is bathed in a light covering of white flames that roll endlessly over its surface. A single chain of empyreal metal pierces either side of the eye, allowing it to be worn around the neck.
My comment about unfair was relating to calling out one person. It's so not isolated.
I personally hate it and refuse to do it. I can list names of people who have done it to my alts, too! But I'm not carrying over a vendetta to the forums from current IG drama, so I won't blame one person for something many do.

Your case was different, don't worry . I completely understand wanting to play with friends you already know! It's the people who go newbie-hunting that annoy me. I've experienced it on alts, and thought, "This character is literally 90 minutes old--what do you mean, 'I'd be just perfect for your family'?"
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

Pony power all the way, yo. The more Brontaurs the better.
Oh, yeah, seen that in other MUDs. Always found it a bit creepy. I've ended up with my fair share of kids over time, but it's more like "I feel bad saying no, so ok, I'll adopt you if you ask." People who actively grab new people before they know the game...aren't really giving them a fair chance, imo, to find a family that fits them well.

It's also kind of weird when babies from the Portal talk to you like you're their chum and try to weasel their way into your family tree very, very obviously. If you wanna alt and join a family, try a little subtlety!
"Oh yeah, you're a naughty mayor, aren't you? Misfile that Form MA631-D. Comptroller Shevat's got a nice gemstone disc for you, but yer gonna have to beg for it."
Some families bug me more than others because you're awesome, I'm sure, but I can't come up with a polite way to say "I can't join or I'll get shrubbed"
I try to avoid Family talk like the plague until my character is at least 50 years old and CR/GR3. How are they possibly supposed to be cemented before that?
Meeting somebody and talking for 30 minutes, logging in 8 hours later and asking them if they'll join your family is not the way to get me to join your family. :?
What if you're a Hallifaxian lobo who's just the right age to be adopted by the best couple in the best family in Hallifax, but you're semi dormant and you've never met them. Would you accept an adoption offer via message out of the blue? Asking for a friend.

I've barely even heard anyone talk of families etc in game yet. Maybe I need to make more of an effort to talk to people by the pool
I think everyone's just too afraid to ask anyone to join any family that isn't La'Saet in Celest. Used to be La'Saet, the house that became Laedyn, Dekoven, and Dawneye recruited fairly heavily from Celest. (unless I'm misremembering.) Oh, and Pesukaru, but he wasn't as COME HITHER MY CHILD as some of the others.

I was thinking about this, could you issue yourself and ask the admin to very quietly remove your old alt from a family?
Theoretically, maybe. Only one of my characters has a child, and he's retired, so it might be a moot point, but the only issue I could see with quietly exiting would be if it cascades down the line to kids/grandkids. Rejecting the family would do that too, but...
Right. Might end up doing that at some point. Trouble is I sorta like one or two of the alts, just played them into a very boring corner without certain other parties. Which is part of why I made a clean break :P
I hope it's not still the title thing, because that's pretty silly. I've had the same title on Xenthos as GA, GC, CL, and GM. It's just Not A Big Deal.
No, not titles this time, but one actor is from that previous drama. Now the drama is summed up in this:
"Come at me, bro." "Take off all your arties first so it is a fair fight." "Our enemies won't take off their arties for you, why should I?" "Cause you have to fight me fairly." "So you are to scared to fight me cause of arties?" "It's about skill not artifacts winning for you."
Actor #1 20% my might and mortal Actor#2 85% my might and Demigod
I think artifacts are moot at that point.

I'm going to just say it: at this point, I'm inherently suspicious of everyone with a tail and a tea-cup in Hallifax until they prove I should feel otherwise. Sorry @Daraius! Someone's gotta balance out the fuzzy-wuzzy reputation we're getting in Shevat!
"Oh yeah, you're a naughty mayor, aren't you? Misfile that Form MA631-D. Comptroller Shevat's got a nice gemstone disc for you, but yer gonna have to beg for it."
Whoa, racist much? Lucidians can be snugglers, tae'dae can be assholes, and the gravest fuzzy-wuzzy threat in potentia is distinctly un-tailed-and-teacupped.
@Kilee if it makes you feel any better, sounds like my stint in guild leadership. I still feel embarrassed about it, even after Xeria the character has been IG dead for quite a while now. Everything I did could have been handled better.
