Many, many years ago (back when I was CL of Glomdoring), we had a system in place where if you were CR6 and did something that should have earned a favour, you got a "point" instead (I don't know that we ever really gave it a name). Once you got 5 points, you were eligible to buy credits from the org at the discounted rate. Basically, it was a permanent credit sale for people who were doing things.
There were a few problems, though; nobody except me ever really reported to me when things were happening that deserved it, so if I didn't see it / hear about it, it didn't get rewarded (poor people). I feel like at the time, trying to do it "free" (ala the current systems) wouldn't have flown, but doing it that way made it extraordinarily complex. I actually wrote an entire system in zMud for handling it. Alias to add a point to people, alias to output a text file of people who had 5+ points. Then a secondary C++ program that parsed through the output and actually prettied it up so it was readable and I could put it into an in-game file. An alias to transfer the credits after deposit, that also automatically deducted the points from the individual. It was neat in that it basically rewarded people who were active, and (unlike most org credit sales) you would have as much time as you needed to get the gold to buy what you needed vs. higher-generating people being able to snap them up rapidly.
Once I was done with CL, the whole system kind of went *poof* pretty rapidly. Just too complicated.
TL;DR: I have long been a fan of giving people recognition for their actions past CR6, and still think it's a great idea.
I was party to setting up/promoting the Magnagoran system of giving out 1 credit to CR6s for anything that would earn a favour. It's a great scheme and I wish Glomdoring did something similar. Everyone in Glom already seems motivated to help out for no reward, but I think a little appreciation goes a long way. I hate credit sales as a general rule. In the Cacophony, I established a scheme for matching any city credits rewarded with guild credits, or a credit per favour. Rewarding activity is the best way, I think. And when newbies read the logs, they'll see all these people getting rewards for participating in things and quite likely would go 'hey, look how active we are! And I want rewards too, I will join in wherever I can.'
Well sure, that's good too. I'm sure nobody's going to balk at a proposal to give more concrete regular participation awards.
Maybe I'm just skeptical but I can totally see such a proposal being lost to Hallifaxian bureaucracy.
Sigh. The one thing I always hated about Hallifaxian RP was the bureaucracy angle. The red tape, etc. Always seemed to make things slow and inefficient.

On a personal level, and not related to commune resources, I try to toss single credits around frequently. My concern in making it more "official" is that you'll end up with more of the fair weather players and less of the truly bought in ones (ones who enjoy more than looking for the next reward-based activity). I love that we have a group of players who feel rewarded just from doing what we all do and would hate to lose that. Since seeing the idea, though, I've been trying to think through how it could work in Glomdoring without (as Xenthos pointed out) ending up this complicated thing potentially added to (someone's) plate.
There were a few problems, though; nobody except me ever really reported to me when things were happening that deserved it, so if I didn't see it / hear about it, it didn't get rewarded (poor people). I made a whole bunch of ways for Researchers to earn Credits from the Institute, including standard bounties for flares/villages/etc, and basically ran into the same problem. Nobody remembered to message me and claim their rewards, ever. I'd have to go out and make an effort to track everyone down and figure out what happened when, and try not to exclude anyone for it to remotely work.
Think this is just a general problem game-wide with rewarding/recognition.
The flip side to Gaudiguch giving away tons of credits on a rolling basis is the fact that Gaudiguch does not own its own fully arti'd war ship, nor has it ever done anything like buy artifacts for leaders, which some of the orgs who award less, or who have historically awarded less, have done.
There are pros and cons to all ways of doing things. Since Gaudiguch is ostensibly "for the people," in a way that no other org is, it makes sense that its central holdings would be less, while its individual returns are greater.
"Oh yeah, you're a naughty mayor, aren't you? Misfile that Form MA631-D. Comptroller Shevat's got a nice gemstone disc for you, but yer gonna have to beg for it."
Just takes some dedicated people. I would religiously message the CL who joined in on things that I was there for. Alternatively adding lists to the org logs (like basically everyone does for people needing favours) means the CL just has to read logs. And if it's not reported, not their problem. You want recognition for what you do, you'll report it.
Eh, buying artifacts for leaders doesn't really work well from what I've seen (although city-deeded artied ships can be really great and you generally just need to do one and be done). I think the raffle sounds neat too.
I really do love the raffle though. That's so clever and also feels really, really Gaudiguchian.

Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.
Remember that time Celest bought someone a cubix or something, and they were like lolthanxbai?
You mean when I was CL of Celest? Maybe this happened more than once and more than once in Celest, but if not it was I or at least I inherited it.
Now in fairness, I don't remember if I voted for it or if it was done under the previous CL as we're talking a good five years or so ago. Also, AFAIK the loan was repaid in full. The loan was to Talkan and celest really needed a cubix, I don't remember if anyone else in Celest even had one. It was also the case that the repayment was pretty swift given that there was a regular payment schedule (yearly I believe), which he often succeeded. If it wasn't payed back I would be surprised because my memory was it was, but I could be mistaken. Nydekion IIRC succeeded me and I believe that Talkan him, so I find it hard that even if he had some left to repay that it wouldn't be wiped out by the time he was CL. It could be a false memory, but I believe he not only payed it off before I stepped down, but paid it off years before it was due.
I am a bit unsure if it was for the total amount of a cubix or just part of the cost, but whichever it was significant amount. I also don't remember if it was secured in some manner (ship, other person or persons co-signing -- Aison was his wife then and she may have put up her shop).
Would I do it again? Not for the total amount of a cubix. But really they're not rare enough to seriously consider as adding enough value to the org.
@Celina I want to say when I was CL of Celest I brought back Earl rewards. I don't think I 'invented them', but I do believe they had stopped being used. After I stepped down and later returned to playing after something like two years, I believe the rewards were gone again.
When I became CL of Gaudiguch I expanded the Power reward system to give out credits for large amounts of power added in a single weave. I also tend to toss a credit towards someone who seems to put in a large chunk of power in a year but doesn't tend to add the large chunks in a single weave (This is more something I do as a personal call because I won't be arsed to really track it more than my impression of what they've added other than me trying to have some sense of the last six weaves). I've always been a bit leery of credit sales for the reason someone mentioned previously...that of the credits going to mostly inactive persons.
The main thing I did as CL was set aside the idea that if a person received a favour they were already rewarded and shouldn't get a credit. At times I've extended the rewards to those of our allies who help. Though I try to keep that in hand by not making it an every time thing so much as a reward for seeing them constantly offer help when Gaudi needs it. This was done more when Gaudi was really low in numbers and hasn't been done much as of late.
@Altrea is right that I tend to view being CL as a stewardship more than 'spritual leader' or 'war leader' or some-such and I have in the back of my head a kinda late 60's Height and Ashbury vibe about Gaudiguch. I try to run things as if I'm dealing with volunteers rather than employees or conscripts.
I try to not to purposely exclude people from participating in rewards, that's why I try to toss newbies a credit for contributions of various sorts. I don't much care if someone wants to max their rewards or only participates in the activities which give them -- though I don't know I've seem much evidence of that happening).
I also, do the lottery a lot looser than it was set up. I don't do it every year, but in those cases I give out a bit larger rewards, more of them, or both.
As to the library I had increased the rewards verbally with previous Librarians, but it never seemed to get added to the scroll. Altrea fixed that, but I personally believe that a good chunk of the book submissions are due more to her getting people interested than the rewards.
In Gaudiguch, someone who really wanted to earn credits in-game and played regularly by pushing a bit, should be able to earn 20 credits or so a game year apart from any books or plays. That should be enough to at least feel like you can get an artifact at some point or make a dent in skills.

Last night I poured myself a stiff drink and took the plunge to specialise in Wyrdenwood (the drink was needed because I spent two days choosing faeling in the first place). Whoever it is that wrote the flavour text that comes with the transformation, I just want to honestly day 'Wow'. It literally gave me goosebumps to read it, and is the most brilliant flavour I've ever seen in a game. Let's just say I'm not missing faeling one bit. A heartfelt "thank you"!

Yeah, I love that. Though the -woods learning text is literally "place holder" text.
Like you get taught the first thing, and then the second thing and then the last thing.

Only it say's like, "ability" instead of thing.
You can contact your guild patron and let them know that you don't have unique skill learning lines. They may write some or may be open to you (or another guildmate) writing them and submitting them for implementation.
