Shhhh! don't poke the paper-thin veneer of competence we maintain. We just cloned Morbo back in the day and have several of his clones chained to the helms.
"Oh yeah, you're a naughty mayor, aren't you? Misfile that Form MA631-D. Comptroller Shevat's got a nice gemstone disc for you, but yer gonna have to beg for it."
/reminisces back to the first ever aetherflare of all time
/had no idea what she was doing
/still doesn't
(Was this the very first? Or the second? One of the very first, I know, because no one expected it or knew what to do.) I remember they made me PILOT TO XION because I'd sat at a pilot module before. No fancy flashpoints, straight up flying from the Prime Hallifax dock to Xion.
I super don't know how to pilot, but no one else would do it.
I was mentally screaming the entire way.
I still don't like aetherflares. ><
EDIT: I don't think the above conveyed my utter contempt well enough. I hate aetherflares. Hate hate hate. At some point after flares were released, the switch inside me flipped from "nervous but willing" to "no, worst, never, ugh" towards anything involving aetherships. If I'm on and a flare happens, I will straight up log out, I don't even care.

@Phoebus omg I remember being CL when it happened and thinking "oh no, another thing I have no idea how to explain to people." We got to Xion and everyone was kind of...we were all basically clueless, and I remember Xenthos later being like "you guys had so much time to get things together, what happened?" and I thought "we don't understand aetherships, that's what happened!"
Morbo looked at me like I was a complete waste of space, but I think we actually got on better after that, ahaha. He said something like, "Even though it was clear you had no idea what you were doing, you tried, and I respect that." I will gladly accept my participation trophy.

It was a paper tiger you had to fight anyway. Mag didn't have enough people to actually bombard and they didn't have enough to have an empath on their main combat ship. So we were just looking scary.
Protip: there are very few commands that are relevant for aethercombat.
pilot seal start/stop (5p, no whistling)
pilot roll start/stop (3p, won't be able to hit other ships reliably but will dodge a lot of hits towards you)
pilot flashpoint recall, pilot fuse flashpoint <location>. (just get your artie-loaded person to set these for you. All they have to do is whistle the ship over with the bubblix they almost certainly have, pilot launch, PILOT FLASHPOINT NAME <bubble> and dock) (addendum: use the millions of gold you probably have just sitting around in your city/commune coffers and purchase at least one good ship, deed it to the org if you don't already have something reliable. Have your Steward(?) assign ships as necessary).
turret target ship <name>
turret target module grid (though it's not a bad idea to just focus hull)
turret murkle, turret worble (1p ea, 1st is module stupidity and 2nd is module aeon)
turret marmuckle, turret marwurble (5p ea, applies above affects to all modules)
turret clarionblast (10p, can be useful to hinder an offensive (targeting turret) or pin someone down (targeting chair). Good empaths will just cure it off really easily though. ALSO, if you clarionblast the bombarding turret, the bombardment stops! (can distinguish which turret you target with turret, 2.turret and 3.turret))
grid planarbond
grid regenerate <module#> (5p, to repair clarionblasted things. Also worth mentioning that you have a huge power lead over the ship that clarionblasts you).
(just a run-of-the-mill grid script will heal you fine (and I'm not talking out of my ass -- this is something I've personally experienced))
Messing around with armadas is more or less pointless; synchronising unneeded with planarbond, trying to ram a ship is dumb because the juggernauts will spit you into a maze of unmapped rooms, etc. Others can tack onto the list as needed, but this is pretty much all you need. REMEMBER THAT THOSE TURRET MOVES CAN MISS AND STILL CONSUME THE POWER. I'm looking at you, clarionblast.
To go off of what @Maligorn was saying, I try to encourage 1 of my gunners to clarionblast the enemy grid (so they can't heal), 1 turret to fire and hinder the chair so they can't move, and another to pepper the turrets.
I didn't know about the targetting bit for the different turrets! That's good to know.
I've only recently started getting involved with Flares, but it still seems that folks are a bit lost as to what to do. Which is all good, just means there's always something new to learn!
My main concern with using Clarionblast for that is that the opponent can just regenerate it and then immediately marmuckle you, and you won't have the power to start clearing off the muckles.
I have a further addendum -- if you grid distribute power in such a way that puts the grid at 150% (or is the maximum 200%?), it will not waste any commands until it is critically damaged. Of course, the take from that is that some of your modules will be underjuiced and will suffer command failure at no damage. I think a good idea is usually to just divert from the shield orb -- you'll probably not be using it anyway.
But with that said, pilot forcefield on after telling your turreteers to stop firing or to not fire is valuable, just as turret strip is.
If you're an enemy and you're going to try and hunt we're I'm influencing, yes I will chase you violently away. I'm sorry that this makes me an f-ing bitch.
I did. Guessing the use of the term "alpha" was a giveaway.
And here I was just assuming that you meant you alpha-wolf'd or alpha-male'd the dragons, and successfully compared beefy TA orclach Karlach with the mental image of a body builder.
Tonight amidst the mountaintops And endless starless night Singing how the wind was lost Before an earthly flight

There are times your sense of imagination worries me a tad darling.
Karlach's muscular, but in a practical way, not in a walking bulge of muscles on muscles way.
The divine voice

Morkarion, you are the Bringer of Death indeed."
You see Estarra the Eternal shout, "Morkarion is no more! Mourn the mortal! But welcome True Ascendant Karlach, of the Realm of Death!

You have sold 30 credit(s) at 3300 per credit, for a total of 99000 gold, and it has been placed in your inventory.
That sure does suck! I tried to send you over some gold but you weren't there, sadly!
Once I accidentally sold credits at 1200 instead of 12000, but a bunch of lovely people helped me out with great generosity, and I want to pass that forward!

Oh, I went for a walk. I felt like I was getting upset from it.
I appreciate the thought! End of the day, it's just a bit of virtual gold, so I'm fine with it. I do hope whoever snagged that deal does at least share some with some newbies or something.
