Do you think we should remove OOC clans from Lusternia?

Yes, clans should be removed and OOC policies changed

What was finally the breaking point was that every. single. sentence. out of the mouths of a small group of people was painfully juvenile, and often poorly written sexual inuendo. It wasn't just people being cute. It wasn't just people having fun. I wish I kept logs of some of it, because trying to reconstruct some of it from memory won't do it justice. This was on another level entirely. And whether because everyone is talking on OOC clans, or for whatever reason others weren't talking on the aether, this is all you'd hear for hours at a time. You'd look at CTELLS FULL and it was a solid wall of the most cringeworthy conversation you can imagine. It blocked everything else out.
Sigh, literally in the last few hours someone's mentioned complaints about issues in line with this.

Wow. Sexual innuendo. That's a new one.
    Ghost-shark, ghost-shark! A ghost and a shark!

He fights with the forces of Light

The one I remember most recently was "Auto-neurotic asphyxia".

Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

Not really, I've now heard the issue from two different people.

Sexual harassment is also generally a factor in why people start complaining about "Snugglewilde" again, aside from innuendo there's also often issues around a lack of consent with sexualised emoting.

So, if there was someone complaining about your behaviour either it wasn't just you inviting people to a herofete, or you've looked at someone's words and decided they're targeted at yourself.

edit: Pulling this back on topic.

Again, if you want to engage in behaviours or rp IC it makes no real sense to me that you would go to an OOC clan rather than finding or creating an IC one that enables you to pursue RP that you want.

Afaik, if someone wants to make "Innuendo Town the clan" go for it, it doesn't necessitate it being OOC, and I doubt anyone's really going to care if it's only people who have consented to being in that environment seeing it.

Well, ok, I must have missed most of the inanity and sexual innuendo going on (I often don't pay attention to aethers), because all I saw was Coraline writing plays about the danger of Evil Uncles and weevil sandwiches, and talking about such things on the aether, and then her leaving after Everiine's post. There's no reason to yell at people for acting like Coraline does, she's rping a certain type of faeling pretty well, and it's funny and endearing. So maybe I jumped to a wrong conclusion about what was going on, and the post was directed at others in the commune, who probably deserve it, not her. My apologies.

Edit: I think I've been very careful to not use emotes without consent, or make crude jokes in public, but if I have done anything that makes one of your characters feel uncomfortable, I would like you to send me a message going 'That was not ok'. I'm not perfect and I want to know of there's anything I need to watch out for and fix about how I behave.

Can people who have good regimes (they think) post those OOC clan rules? Might be helpful for context.

The Serenguard OOC combat clan had pretty much just one rule: the clan was only for OOC combat questions and discussion. If it wasnt that, it wasnt allowed. Never had any problems.

OGE, Mag's, only has two rules. 1) Don't be a dick and 2) If someone asks that a topic stops, it does. Those are the officially listed rules, but we also have people like Maeko, Ixion, Vatul, Shango, and others that when something IC gets brought up, they just respond with, "Ping me in game and let's go." The system works because we have these figures that prefer IC RP to exist and will use their reputation to make sure it goes to IC.
That sounds like a good system, and kudos to those individuals. That is the kind of self-policing I was referring to.
I'm afraid though that self-policing only works if you have people that actually can check themselves. We can agree self-policing in a positive way works, but, as I said before in a post in the first page how this can slide fast into a downturn thus driving away people who feel like they can't help but just let things continue to slide in fear of IC ramifications and OOC clique-mongering.
The herd mentality is very easy to fall into when it comes to some OOC things. The people who are self-policing really have to take a hard look at themselves, otherwise they're just generating poor behaviors passed onto those who are still trying to find their game-playing style. So if we have those kinds of people who can moderate clans, and be able to listen to those who might disagree with them. Then yeah, it's a good thing for sure.

I've had several long time characters in Serenwilde (Foehn and Mistral) that I eventually had to move elsewhere because I couldn't tolerate the issues that Everiine pointed out.

That aside, I can't stand OOC clans. I often have 'just turned them off' and found my enjoyment in the game go up considerably, only to have someone ping me (Soandso tells you, "// do you have xyz clan turned off?") and realize that there's a whole conversation relating to mostly IC matters occurring in an OOC clan that others are trying to talk to me in. It's incredibly annoying and considerably detracts from the overall game for me.
I know I'm a little late to the party concerning the topic of Serenwilde in this thread. But if we want to examine Serenwilde as a whole, we could probably move it to another one safely.

Serenwilde CT makes me want to facesmash a brick wall. And I love Seren, it's where I go for my 'light' RP. We crushed out the over the top silliness and licking/groping/glomping/skyclad/sleep with everything that moves once before. Serenwilde is not happy forest. It can have happy people but you know, all the orgs have a measure of humour and playfulness, but for some reason Seren always seems to go to the ridiculous extreme.

    ANYWAY. On topic.

I couldn't decide on a  vote. I don't think they should be removed entirely, but I know personally I RP better - less lazily - when I'm not getting the socialisation on a clan. Don't get me wrong. I am in some (though I went through a time of cutting them all out and it was really great for me) and I don't always chat, and I don't always listen, but it's a nice option.

What I loathe, and what I flipped out about in the past, was the level of metagaming that went on in them at times, at the IC things planned out in the clans without everyone having the benefit to participate or be involved. Like city projects and deciding who would design it when people outside the cool kids club would love to be involved too. In deciding which person to make as the next figurehead of x guild and who can we convince to vote, that sort of thing. It's a scourge on the game, all this stuff could and should be RPed out in character. That's why I hate ooc clans.

Alternatively sometimes I love them because I'm logged in at work, lurking in my manse but can still join in on some idle chat despite not being free to properly play. It's catch 22.

None of that really provides a justification with why OOC clans are necessary.

You can disagree all you like with "the notion that a player has to join an OOC clan if they want something other than silence in their organization", because it seems pretty clear that for some people that's the reality of the game for them.
My personal experience has been seeing people getting silence on IC channels while people are constantly talking on OOC clans, I have seen discussions on these OOC clans that result in IC actions (Which guess what, isn't against the rules cause all clans are IC if anyone in them decides to do this)

My experience is that the OOC clan situation has gotten worse, when I was able to easily have fun interacting with people the only OOC clans I was really aware of were the strictly moderated combat ones.

So why exactly should someone attracted by the rp focus that this game is sold on, bother to stick around if you can't roleplay with people cause they're too busy memeing in OOC clans to do anything.

    Its a bullshit question

I think you have it backwards, to bar a behavior you should have to demonstrate it should be barred, not the other way around.

Even in the case you cited you could turn on the channel you want and turn it off during other times.

    >> My personal experience has been seeing people getting silence on IC channels while people are constantly talking on OOC clans, I have seen discussions on these OOC clans that result in IC actions (Which guess what, isn't against the rules cause all clans are IC if anyone in them decides to do this)

That doesn't mean that the person on the OOC clan would be more talkative on the IC channel if you they weren't in an OOC clan. Just because someone is willing to talk about x doesn't mean they will engage in y.

    >>So why exactly should someone attracted by the rp focus that this game is sold on, bother to stick around if you can't roleplay with people cause they're too busy memeing in OOC clans to do anything.

I won't say that there isn't RP on IC channels, but, if we exclude IC clans (which exist) then I've not seen a big change between now and say 10 years ago.
