Fresh/Soph boys basketball played their first game tonight and won in a nail-biter! Son made the first basket for the team too! but he was fouled before the shot so it didn't count. and they took it out of bounds instead of getting free throws. JV and Varsity tomorrow night! then daughter starts her season on Saturday.

Today I made the discovery that I take such good care of my books that if I need to give someone a gift, and my funds are not where I would like them to be, I can inevitably find a book I know they will like, gift it, and it will look brand new.

It is absolutely astounding how several good and amazing things happening in the span of an hour can make you feel better about the last four weeks. So raves for finally getting to see @Tacita, @Karlach for a moment of humour that caught me off guard, being told that a cheque finally came in the mail from my previous insurance company, a message from not-Cyndarin, and though it fell outside of this hour, that brief conversation yesterday with @Everiine.

So I found out last week that I'm probably being laid off and I've been bumming over that. Got a call just now from a headhunter - turns out someone from work has been talking me up and now I'm being asked to interview for a job with a ton more upwards mobility and $15k more a year. Even if I don't get it, it feels so warm and fuzzy that someone would do that for me, and I'm feeling a lot less anxious about the looming job search.

Got a small scholarship from school and applied for financial aid for next year. It's looking like grants and the scholarship will cover me, no loans needed. I'm only going back to finish a 2-year degree at community college, but I'm still excited. It's a small thing, but it's actual forward progress.
My main concern now is how I'm actually going to get to and from campus every day, but I'm sure I can work something out. Worst case I'll just have to sit around and read in the library on campus if my available transportation does not line up with my class schedule. I can think of worse things to do while waiting.

For a much less impressive rave: we put up our Christmas decorations today. Only almost knocked over the tree twice and busted one ornament. But after a few hours work, it's all up now .
And we watched our recording of the live Hairspray! production on NBC. Yes, there were some technical issues, but it was still fun! I'm glad this is becoming a "thing", televising live Broadway shows.

Staying a time my g-ma's tonight to help with the meal, and minutes before trying to go to bed discover her cat's leg is horrifically swollen with blood and pus, and he looks like he's lost half his body weight. And of course the vet is closed tomorrow. ]
So the diagnosis wasn't dire, despite how bad the leg looked. He needed antibiotics, lots of rest, and eventually I had to massage his leg with hot towels to stimulate drainage and circulation, but apart from a still-hairless appendage, he's doing fine. He's now living with me as a born-again indoor cat, and while I can't say I'm a cat person by any stretch of the imagination, he is about as mellow and affectionate as cats get.
My Solstice present from @Salome came in and it's so adorable and cute. I accidentally opened it way too early because I didn't see a return address (and thought it was one of my presents to a housemate) BUT IT'S SO CUTE AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
My last exam of semester 1 of Midwifery is tomorrow morning. From 11:30am tomorrow, I am FREE for five weeks unti I go back for semester 2. Also, my boyfriend bought me ten bottles of mt favourite wine for Christmas (its really hard to get in normal shops). Yippeeeeeeee!
