  • Dropbox is payment optional. I have about 3.4GB of free space. Not a whole lot, but plenty for what I use it for.

You have received a new honour! Congratulations! On this day, you have shown your willingness to ensure a bug-free Lusternia for everyone to enjoy. • Sometimes, they also have special promotions for various things. I currently have about 25 GB (which will be set back to 5 GB after one year, I think) for free, because my college participated in some kind of event.

At one point they were giving 50gb of dropbox space for a year to people who purchased a Samsung Galaxy S4 (as a result I now have 52gb of space available in my dropbox)

  • I use both Dropbox and Google Drive.  I think Drive is cheaper for upgrading IMO, but I haven't looked.  I have 25GB free space on Google right now and 14 GB free on Dropbox.  I've used Dropbox for school stuff and backing up pictures from my phone.

I'm using Drive as a live backup of my Documents, Pictures, and Video libraries on my PC(I essentially just moved the libraries to Drive).  My computer could burn up today and I'd still have all of my important data.  No more backup CDs

  • Alas, if only my storage needs were only 50GB...

The name of "storage" has been edited from a Pulp Fiction reference that I believe most would find distasteful.
E:\ is my hard drive from my laptop, since salvaged, and so a lot of good stuff is stored there as well.

I also have a 3TB external on my wish list, so I can back up ALL this stuff. A hard drive once failed on me and took with it years of irreplaceable stuff - never again!

*snerk* Novice.  Across all my hard drives, I have around 6 terabytes of space. (I'd have more but my current computer doesn't have any physical space for any more Hard Drives :(  )  It is an absolute NIGHTMARE to back stuff up, next computer that I get, I'm going to set it up in a RAID10 array.

  • Ah, but if not for the crash and burn of my prior hard drive, there would be an additional TB of  things there.

So could you at least update me from 'novice' to 'capable'?

Wuss. I've got a bit over 10TB in total, with one disc (well, array) being responsible for 9TB. Thinking about building a separate computer solely dedicated to hosting the raid array though.

:p  Forget pr0n, Anime all the way for me!

(Seriously though, I have almost every single one of the DVDs I own ripped and backed up on my hard drives.  Means if I am in the mood to watch something, I don't have to go digging through my collection for a particular disc.)

Had to disappear just as wildnodes started, boss phoned me and needed me to go into work urgently, he had been feeling ill most of the day and was strongly considering heading to the hospital to be checked out.

Teensy bit unhappy about missing the first wildnodes I've actually been around for in a while, but RL always comes first for me.

My current(ish) laptop had 500 gb, which is basically full, while the new one arriving Friday has 750, and I plan on getting an external hd soon as possible.

If you want the MacOS, it's basically prettified Linux. If you want it for the speeds, you typically can get a similar comp for 2/3 of the price. If you want it for status, acquire, spraypaint chrome, put a white apple logo on the back + middle.

I say this as I type from a MacBook Pro.

Gnome3 is soooo much prettier than OSX/Tiger imo... Unless you're talking about prettier in terms of the actual case.

I...want it to play Lusternia on.

    Honest answer. Awesome.

For $949 you can get a 128GB MacBook Air with 4GB RAM, 11.6" display, 1.3GHz processor.

For $359 you can get a 320GB ASUS 15.6" Laptop with 4GB RAM, 2.3 GHz processor. Windows 7.

  • I'll admit I'm a total Lenovo fan boy... Wouldn't buy a notebook from anywhere else...

They also have a pretty badass sale going on right now... time to bust out the credit card.

Seconding Lenovo, some brilliant kit coming out of there.

As for Macs I never will understand their attraction, it's a technologic fashion label, you pay over the hill prices for sub par kit. It's like buying from Dell.

  • I always buy my computers from a specific computer stores that does custom orders so I get to choose everything that goes into it. It certainly doesn't hurt that they're awesome at answering questions too, and won't try to sell you a supercomputer if all you're interested in is playing solitaire.

I like macs because they are low maintenance. In my experience, they don't suffer from the same slow downs as others over time. Also less prone to just crapping out on me.

Oh I get. 30% discount off Lenovo through my job. Which Lenovo would you recommend

The job discount sounds awesome, especially if it stacks with the current promos they have running! You can also find tons of (stackable) coupon specials floating around the web from time to time. My last buy was an IdeaPad y560p that was kitted out with a sticker price of $1,800 that I picked up for like $780 w/ free shipping.

Laptop shopping is a lot like car shopping... What you want is completely dependent on your needs. Need something small/uber-portable? Not so much and fine with a desktop replacement? Want to play high end games? Or fine with browsing the web / Lusty. etc, etc.

Personally I have always stuck with ASUS PCs/Parts, they have always lasted me a very long time and have been quite reliable.
