She's one of those kids that's been heavily pressured to achieve (the way her brother, mother, aunt, uncle, etc. have), but she just... didn't. It's apparently been kind of a shitstorm in their house this week. Not really sure how to comfort her.
Luckily in my country university education is free, and thanks to it, I am considering starting another degree to go with my current one. Also, entrance exams. /Nordic socialist propaganda
I'm pretty sure a haircut with scissors, 5 months out from a job you don't even know you have yet is going to upset Disney.
Actually considering how serious they were about the whole 'disney look' thing, it COULD have potentially cost me the position if I turned up with an improper hairstyle. The position may not start for 4 and a half months, but there is a LOT of paperwork to be processed, including background checks, visa applications, etc. The visa application alone is expected to take around 2 months. They want to know that applicants are serious about the job, especially having sent their interviewers halfway around the world to meet said applicants.
That being said, I was past due for a haircut anyway. It was just annoying that I could not find my clipper attachments.

That's rough. Hopefully she'll be a little more receptive of the idea after she's had a little time to process. But the only thing you can really do is be supportive, otherwise you're just setting yourself up against her mother.

I've made it very clear to my children they have three choices. 1) University/College, 2) Trade school, 3) Military. There is no fourth choice (take a year off and loaf around my house). I think the optimal solution is a 4 year enlistment (enrolling in the Montgomery G.I. Bill), followed by 2 years at community school and then 2 years at State school for the degree. The only name that shows on the degree is the issuing institution, not the nice and cheap community, the aid agencies don't care if you're getting paid cash money every month from your G.I Bill contributions (so no danger to grants and loans), and many employers look favourably to veterans (they've already been in that Real World place with Real World responsibilities and Real World consequences).
Send her packing to your State's school! She might even like it.

This week I volunteered to work on Sunday. This will be my 14th day in a row. Not only that, but I volunteered to leave at 11pm from my normal shift and come back in at 5 am for first shift.
I get to work and there's literally a fraction of the people here that should be here. My office coffee pot is empty and we're out of grounds. The shift supervisor has no work for me to do, so I tell him I'll head home. I call my wife and let her know I'll be home soon.
Three seconds before I hit the door, and after clocking out, the shift supervisor calls me and tells me there's things I can do if I want to work.
If sunday wasn't double time, I'd burn this plant down.

Got my laptop back from Asus today......according to the repair sheet, all they did was re-install Windows and put it back in the mail. I already tried that solution 4 or 5 times. I'm fairly confident the issue is a hardware problem. Cheap bastards.

Lenovo has the best customer service when it comes to repairs. If you are in the market for a new one and are not interested in overpriced AppleCare, I highly recommend them!
I may go that route if I decide to replace the laptop. I have a new tablet that I really enjoy using, so I may just go PC free for my personal stuff, only using a computer at work.
Was going to say, being an independent apple authorized service provider, can confirm I don't own any apple products due to overpriced repairs and the fact that Apple has been cutting corners lately with their build quality.
Lenovo is a great brand, and when I'm in the market for a new laptop, will likely be who I go thorough.

I have an ideapad y510p. It's had some issues, one being my fault, the other not. Both covered under the warranty, both times I called, got a rep on the phone immediately both times and they had me send it in after a few quick checks. They paid for shipping and packaging, all I had to do was take it to a local FedEx. This last time with the mother board I had it shipped, repaired and returned within a week. The only thing I hate about Lenovo is they use voice scramblers for their customer service reps for some weird reason, and they can have thick accents....so combined it can be really difficult to communicate.
It works great (when i don't drop it and screw up the motherboard), is powerful enough to run really any game I've ever wanted. I ran Dragon Age Inquisition on the highest res with no issues.

I'm game with something like the Peace Corps.. except they require a degree first (third base). Volunteering at a mission for a year (I'm not just a veteran, but I did this one too) doesn't quite cut it because they could return early if they want. My kids can live at home while they go to school, but they are acutely aware that they can't pretend a McJob flipping french-fries will let them live la vida loca graduating from high-school.
Everyone woke up late today. Me, wife, kids, et al. I'm normally at work by 0700, but today not a single person was up before 0900. So much for my 4 y/o ``alarm clock''.

Didn't get to gripe about this before work, but good god, a terrarium tank light deciding it wants to pop at 2 AM when said terrarium is right next to your bed will scare the adgklll out of you and make you think you've been shot at.
Somehow I've turned into one of those people that gets into work at 7am, leaves past 8pm, and still brings work home. Not out of choice but you do what you gotta do. I'll be done with this workload after Easter and I'm as feverishly trying to struggle out of all extraneous assignments like a Celestine about to get Sacced. Can haz break plz?
