Part of me is still kind of horrified to inevitably reach a point where I'll want to run for the sake of running, but I can begin to see the appeal testing your endurance in a race.

I've been so abysmal at running since the weather got bad (and since the rainy season is September-May in England that's quite a while ago), but I'd gotten to the point where I could run for 15 minutes without stopping. I have no idea what distance I was doing though!

I would like to get back to doing it but I'm fighting through enough motivational barriers without adding the fact that it's perpetually cold and wet to the fray. Will try again when the weather improves and see if I can keep it up as more of a habit this time (ideally getting to the point where I consider it worth bothering to run in bad weather!).

You should totally keep at it and not follow my abysmal example :D

That's probably about 2.25-2.5 km if you're going at a gentle jog of a pace.

They have really nice gps/running apps for all that stuff if you have a smart phone.

  • I use Google maps to plot my runs, tells you the distance. Also, rain isn't an excuse, get a good rain coat that 'breathes' and you're good. I wear thighs under my running pants when it gets cold, haven't yet had to break out the gloves. I can see ice or snow stopping a person, although some aren't afraid of slipping or see it as extra challenge. I rather keep my limbs unbroken though ;)

As for the benefits of running, it goes beyond being able to do a certain distance or making you more fit. It helps ward off depression, and studies have also shown that regular positive habits tend to make people make more positive changes in other fields in their life. Probably because it helps you build willpower. So yeah, if you need motivation or reasons, there are plenty. Starting is hardest, after that it is important to avoid 'breaking the chain'.

I would like the above post a hundred times if I could. So very much that. Finding a scenic route is a plus - I run along a stream that goes downtown and past various parks.

And so very much running and willpower. You don't need endurance or speed to run. It's entirely about willpower. And to a lesser degree running smart (don't injure yourself, don't over train, don't add too many miles in a week, pay attention to what your body needs for a run food/hydration wise, etc)

This part was my error, and one I regret making!

You may be managing to collectively con me into going out again, though. I found I had so much more energy whilst I was doing it, and I miss that. There's a park by my flat and having grown up in the countryside means I'm relatively immune to breathing in the same air as the adjacent sewage works, so I may well check it out.
  • I have lots of vineyards surrounding my town. Since they are quite high up, it's usually quite windy there, which I absolutely love. There's nothing better than running with the wind.

Another good thing about running is, that it helps letting off steam and clearing your head (which I need since they removed the punching bag from my halls' gym).

Thoroughly enchanted by the opening ceremony and I still can't get over Bob's completely ridiculous, wonderful desk.  :x

  • I missed the opening ceremony for 2 reasons

    A) No cable or even a digital tuner at my house.

    B) I was out buying a 2012 Ford Fusion with only 18,000 miles.

  • After taking Heartstrings off of Netflix, they added a new Korean drama with my favorite Korean actor and actress. So happy about that. Go go You Are Beautiful marathon while resting with this silly cold!

  • Ran a solid 3km today. Was cheered on by kids in the end. Very random, but also very nice. First solid run after doing a few months of nothing but interval training, just wanted to see how far I could go. This is nice. You all thinking about running should totally do it too.

Last year we had to pay 301 to the state in taxes. This year, we had a place check last year's return, and they were able to amend it so that the state would instead pay us 325, giving us a net return of 626 in a few weeks, not including this year's state tax return of 321 or so.

    HR Block > Jackson Hewitt.
Everiine said: The reason population is low isn't because there are too many orgs. It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

The fact that there's no Narsrim or Murphy is just proof how this won't win

Some people are really wonderful and they never recognize it. I realized how wonderful one such person is today, and they reminded me of this quote from a shared favorite anime...

"Maybe the reason you don't see it is that it's stuck to your back. What I mean is, a person's admirable qualities - they're just like, say, a pickled plum on a rice ball. In other words the person's the rice ball and the plum's stuck to their back. So, all over the world you can have rice balls made with all sorts of wonderful ingredients, all different flavors and shapes and colors, but since they'd be stuck in the middle of everyone's back, someone could have a plum and not even know it. They'd look at themselves and think "I'm so plain, nothing but white rice," even though it isn't true because, turn them around and, sure enough, there it is. There's the plum. So if someone is jealous of somebody else, well, then, it's probably because it's easier to see the plum on someone else's back than it is on your own."
  • I somewhat recognise that quote... Which anime is it from?

Very nice people and pictures from ten years ago, that remind me of the good that has happened, and the good that can happen. With a little bit of courage and a whole lot of hope, maybe I can get out of this bleakspot!

Can be pretty dumb too. When I worked at CompUSA, another cashier started the same day as me. A few weeks later, I was helping train her. The girl could barely count. She later quit CompUSA to work for a tax preparation company. :P

My personal experience with paying someone to do my taxes wasn't very good either. I looked over the results and found out that they had me paying taxes on the money I used from my HSA on qualified medical expenses. The person who trained that person thought that's how they worked too. Finally the person who trained -that- person knew what they were doing and fixed it. Scary stuff. If my taxes are going to be wrong, I'd just as soon save some money and do them wrong myself ;) (but I'm pretty awesome and I do my taxes right).

I personally advise people to avoid going to HR Block or Jackson Hewitt and use turbotax instead, unless things are crazy complicated (in which case, find someone who does money as a career, rather than as seasonal help like the people at HRB and JH). Because, really, that's all they're doing, they just use their own software instead of turbotax. I'm sure there are plenty of people who know what they're doing, but this stuff is kind of important and I don't like leaving it in the hands of others

I agree with what you say.

When I say tax guy, I generally exclude all H&R Block/Jackson Hewitt employees.  Many of them don't have accounting backgrounds etc.
What I'm referencing is those of us who have their degrees in accounting and actually work for real firms.  These people are either CPA's or working on their CPA(I'm still in this group).

Anyhow, onto my raves.  The upside to working late in tax season is that rush hour is long gone when I leave the office.  This allows me to drive in a more sane manner and achieve better MPG(my new Fusion looks to be getting about 20-21 city, compared to the 10 that my Lexus got).

    Also....bluetooth is awesome.

Clergy taxes are a nightmare. While my fiancees father does his own taxes, I don't trust myself nearly enough, so I'm finding someone who specializes in them to do them for me.
Everiine is a man, and is very manly. This MAN before you is so manly you might as well just gender bend right now, cause he's the manliest man that you ever did see. His manly shape has spurned many women and girlyer men to boughs of fainting. He stands before you in a manly manerific typical man-like outfit which is covered in his manly motto: "I am a man!"

  • The security policy for my University's VPN service is terrible and this is a very very good thing!

There's an external VPN which allows you to connect to the university's network to access certain internal resources which are usually restricted to on-campus access - exam timetabling etc but does not allow connections to the wider internet using the University IP address. This is a pain as University IP addresses allow easy access to online journals and academic ebooks.

There's also an internal VPN service which is used in halls of residence for the first years, this does allow connection to the internet using the University IP address but is supposedly only accessible whilst on campus.

So, now to my rave: I just discovered that if I connect to the external VPN service using my login, then connect to the internal VPN service via my connection to the external VPN it all syncs and I can access everything at once from off-campus.
