  • The mini anomoly shall make his presence known to mortalkind at this meet. He shall attend alone.

FYI: anything under the Smithsonian Umbrella will be free, that includes all the museums up and down the National Mall. There are a lot of them. It's tourist season so be prepared for crowds. The National Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History attract the biggest crowds. The national Museum of the American Indian is always empty if you want to avoid crowds. Incidentally, it's also extremely boring. I recommend the Botanical Gardens and the Holocaust Museum Memorial.  The Aquarium is supremely lame as far as Aquariums go. I think they just reopened the George Washington Monument too. General tip: if Smithsonian is non in the title or it's not a memorial/monument, it will probably cost you something.

There are a lot of free landmarks dotted around DC as well to check out as well, like Ford Theatre. You can see the pillow Lincoln bled all over if that's your thing (weirdos).

I shall be attending bars of the same gendered persuasion later that night for those that wish to canoodle with the homosexicles. Be warned, they are crowded and smell like shame and body odor come 1 am.

A gay bar, you say? ...A pity I don't have proper ID, or I would accept your invitation. For there is a young homosexicles that requires social interaction and needs to learn to talk to people, hmm @Tremula?

Seconding the suggestion to visit the Holocaust Museum, when I went there... 4 years ago now I think it was... It was a real eye opener, especially given the Holocaust wasn't really talked about when I was at school.  IIRC you DO need to book in advance to visit some of these places though (No charge, just need to book in and get a ticket) - this is DEFINITELY the case for Washington Monument.  (EDIT: Tickets are required for the Holocaust Museum during March-August. http://www.ushmm.org/information/plan-a-visit  has details.  FYI: Cameras are NOT allowed in the museum.)

http://www.nps.gov/wamo/planyourvisit/feesandreservations.htm  Details for Washington Monument are here - the office to get tickets opens at 8.30am and tickets are first-come, first served and are STRICTLY timed - make sure you get to the monument early enough.

If I may make a suggestion, if they are still open, visit Jaleo restaurant, it is a Tapas bar/restaurant in downtown washington, their food is lovely and the atmosphere is very nice.

Check out http://www.jaleo.com/dc for details. Food is fairly reasonably priced, but is up on the higher end of "reasonable".

If olive oil comes from olives, where does baby oil come from?

If vegetarians eat vegetables, what do humanitarians eat?
  • That place looks kind of expensive :/

It was simply a suggestion - that being said, I don't know how many people you are going to end up with.  I only went with 2 other people, so it made for a fairly pleasant meal.  From what I've seen, it looks like the group will be decently large, so it may end up being unsuitable. *shrug*

  • Laurel is a damn great laser tag location. Also why the fixation on DC? It is a horrible place.
  • It's far easier to organize an event in a locale with abundant access to public transportation, especially since many people do not necessarily have cars.

Organize another meet later! Preferably one I'll be able to attend :D

Good news/bad news: Saturday is a sure thing, but Sunday is still unfortunately up in the air due to a mistake on my managers part, and I won't be able to do anything about it until Sunday, but if I can get it fixed, then I will be able to do all of Sunday and the majority of Saturday before I must head back and prepare to make @Drocilla love my city.

    Agreed on both points.

I don't know if they still do it, but you can get a summer pass at the Laurel location for infinite use that pays for itself in like 2-3 sessions. Have you ever been to the Reisterstown location? It blows the Laurel one out of the water.

There is an extraordinarily simple solution to this dilemma.

    Introduce them to Lusternia.
I like the way you think, mister.

I live closer to Reisterstown, but I have never been. This will be rectified.
  • Was there ever any word about where we were going to have dinner?

Agora's has let me (read: us, but mostly me) down AGAIN (staring daggers at you, @Orventa). Unless anyone has another restaurant they'd like to try*, I may settle for old faithful at this point.  Furthermore, please speak up if you're interested in laser tagging in Laurel after dinner. It's looking like a 45 minute drive from DC (correct me if I'm wrong, @Daevos) and we may need to get creative depending on how many actually want to .

*Please limit restaurants to those easily accessible via DC metro.
  • We could try to find somewhere on Where the Fudge Should I go to Eat?

And it looks like we'll be meeting up at the Smithsonian zoo (Cause it's free) at noon on the 16th! Everyone's welcome to join Arimisia's crew and my group. We'll probably meet up near the front entrance, depending on how busy it is.

If it's too terribly loud/crowded, I vote we meet by the giraffes.

    @Yomoigu Eh what? What happened?

Oh, is it because it's Restaurant Week? Tons of places may be booked. :/

    Any objections to it?

EDIT: Actually, the prices are rather high for what we're aiming for. Executive decision, dinner will be at Nando's Periperi near DuPont Circle at 5:30PM

I like due to familarity, dislike because those bastards lied about having sweet potato fries.

Oh.. Well! That works. Arimisia and I will just have to get something to eat beforehand.

  • @Neos BGR in Dupont has sweet potato fries, maybe do the sneaky thing and grab some to go on the walk to nando's ;)

I will poke Kelly about helping me find this place. Somewhat fortunately that Morgfyre won't be at the meet, else we'd end up lost again.
