Regardless of your personal relationships, Hallifax and Magnagora are not on the same side, and to find out that someone values the victory of an enemy more than the effort of their orgmates is definitely going to sting, especially if you trusted them to be playing for the same team as you. If it was just any old scavenger hunt, then perhaps it would be less frustrating, but it's Ascension, very much an "Us vs. Them" event. It's not hard to see why someone would be annoyed, or feel hurt by it.

Yeah, this makes perfect sense. Everyone's been treating Ascension like a team sport with each city helping people in their city. A city should have every reason to be upset if it turns out someone in their city helped hand a win to someone outside of their org and alliance.
If someone wants to sell out their city and alliance for personal gain because 500 credits and Mag points are worth more to them than their allies and city, all the more power to them.

I really see a lot of prime afk, I know it's okay in manses but why do people just log in and sit in the city for -hours- and not respond to city tells, people talking, or even people talking to them?
If I don't respond to something aimed at me within two minutes, I'm probably engaged in real life against my will. I know, I hate it as much as you do, when my parents tell me to do something, I don't exactly have time to walk to my manse to afk. I drop my device and I jump to do what I'm told.
I know other players have even more demanding circumstances -- children, school, jobs. They get pulled away for what they think is going to be a few seconds but turns out to be a few hours. Shrug. Could be an emergency, could be one of life's many small things that just have to be done. Like helping your sister bring in the groceries, picking up after a pet, etc. I know the frustration of sitting and waiting for someone to respond to something IG, but I also know the importance of real life. So.

Its not just culture. Its also the power that comes from culture. 3-4K power each weave is rather nice for what took Portius very little time to do.
I had hoped to avoid commenting here in the hope of conflict avoidance, but that's evidently not happening. So I'll explain my position on this here, we then we can all discuss whether it was correct or not. I don't think selling out anyone was a goal, or a particularly accurate description.
Take as given that I get along with Mag in general and Marcella in particular very well. I think that's pretty common knowledge. I certainly prefer most of Mag over most other non-Hallis, both at a playerbase level and thematically. It certainly facilitates working with them.
Now, over the course of the competition I gave two locations to Marcella. I assume that she passed them on to the rest of Mag. This was before she took first place. In the period before people started placing, I also received two locations from her and put those in Halli's running document. Leaving aside all bonds of affection here, there was a strategic assessment. Will team Hallifax come out ahead on doing that? I knew that Magnagora had been solving clues pretty quickly, but that Hallifax had been stuck on some for a while. I assumed they were ahead of us, but probably only by one or two clues. Getting over the ones that were clogging our dreamcatchers had a reasonable chance of putting us into easier clues that we could solve and use to catch up. Now, my assessment of Magnagora being only a little bit ahead was wrong. They were very much ahead of us. That means that while I think it was a reasonable strategic decision relative to the information I had, it probably wasn't relative to the actual situation.
Hindsight information with the answers available tells me that Hallifax never would have solved some of the clues on our own. We had a couple clues where people had passed through the correct area, failed to to find the right room, and written off the area as wrong. I think it's safe to say that Mag would have figured out any clue I gave them well before we found those rooms. Of course, I didn't know that at a time and so it didn't factor into the decision, but it does mean that I feel confident saying that the seal would've gone to Mag either way. Marcella might have gotten a personally advantage over other Mags by being the point of contact, but I think one of them would have gotten it.
I did start mining her for answers pretty heavily after she won. At that point I stopped recording clue solutions in our file in favor of speed, since I was then racing against other Mags (assuming you were all sharing clues) to finish. The strategic assessment there was simpler. I could maximize my personal speed and be reasonably sure of placing, probably in third. Or I could share answers, which would greatly reduce my speed and thus my odds of placing. It would increase the odds of other Hallis placing, but since I could only provide answers as fast as I could get new clues, the odds of any of us getting it would be pretty low. I decided that a more or less certain Halli on the board was better than a slim chance of more than one and probably not having any. I maintain that this is a sound strategic choice.
I did get asked to let fourth go to a specific Mag, and I was inclined to respect that. Wouldn't actually have made a difference either, since there were 21 clues and the one that I didn't get (and thus didn't know) was the one that most of Halli was stuck on, but I also did not realize that at the time. I also didn't note specific room numbers when I was racing at the end, which probably made me even less useful. Given that the seal was no longer an option, I was pretty willing to be polite about fourth and fifth.
Now, personal gain. I did profit from this. I also shared out the credits with everyone in Halli who took part in the competition. If I missed someone, they should let me know. So I'm pretty sure that everyone on team Halli came out ahead on me prioritizing my own placement over the group's cheat sheet at the end.
tl;dr I made strategic choices. They seemed reasonable on the basis of information available to me. I may have been biased by personal relationships in assessing that information. Those choices, in hindsight, may or may not have been good ones. I think that they were, but my analysis might be wrong. Either way, personal profit was not my goal, although it did happen.
