I agree with Celina here. A middleground would be just stopping them from ever decaying...you still do the quest but you keep it forever as an unlocked special skill! I feel this is fair to be honest. But that moves away from the whole artifact idea thinger...Why not envoy dat?

That was suggested by a lot of people when they ninja'd away our snoefaasia's. Got poo poo'd. It's in my envoy queue. It's on the list somewhere.

Perhaps allow you to BROWSE while not at the library as well, to allow for the ultimate Lusternian e-reader. And maybe you can link it to bookshelfs so you can access your guild/order/personal bookshelf as well.

I'd be all up for browsing! As for linking... As long as bookcases are entirely org-controlled, sure, I guess. Not sure exactly how those work though, to be honest, which is why I didn't add them in the first place.

A coupon to customize an item into an entirely different item. So you can turn an athame into a voodoo doll and use it as an athame. Warrior weapons not included for awkward coding reasons.

I wish for this too, but this is also one of those things hunters might not feel too happy about. Keep in mind also, beasts are potentially harder to remove than bonds. But if the GP report passes and they choose to remove GP, I suppose it actually wouldn't matter much.

Warrior weapons are actually already customizable outside their base type. (Well, with the limitation that you can't turn a halberd into a katana, but you can turn it into say... a spear) Kind of made me go o.O when I saw it, but eh... it's being done. On that note, I don't see why we don't just get rid of weapon types altogether, beyond the basic... "Is it a hammer or is it a two-handed sword?" That way we might actually get to see more than just the usual weapons being used. (And yes, I know, it's a dead horse I'm beating on)

Sorry, customization still requires adherence to the basic nature. You can call it "Grimma Van Holstren" or "Ebonwing" but it's simply a proper name. You can't make an athame a voodoo doll, in that example, nor a bardiche a belaying pin. I imagine Artifacts just feels that a spear and bardiche are close enough together to allow customization towards it.

Or you can customize your athame to perpetually have a ghost/spirit thing clinging to it, @Celina.

Or maybe if pilot fuse ship <trader ship> is too good, the beacon could just say the direction of the gnomish ship no matter your distance from it.

It's because so many facets of the game are outright broken and protected by those who benefit from it being that way. An overabundance of gimmicks (including game-breaking ones), artifacts that destroy any concept of balance, blatant pay-to-win features, and an obsession with convenience that makes few things actually worthwhile all contribute to the game's sad decline.

Fair enough, though each ship tends to stay in approximately the same area, so just knowing the general direction might be less useful for someone who has already learned that information.

The main reason I would get one if they existed would be to avoid the really long trips back and forth between merchant ships, since if you are with a pilot who really cares about optimizing their trades you can easily end up visiting every single ship three times, with at least five minute flights between most of them. I was with one last night and we ended up spending over two hours just doing aethertrading, most of it spent staring blankly into space while she navigated or checked her logs to see what prices the other ship had when we visited it.

For this reason, the majority of captains I've sailed with (myself included) tend to just visit the closest 2-3 ships and buy+sell right in the same location, because 95% of the aethertrading process is very dull travel time. Buying and selling on an open market is a complex and pretty cool concept, so I'd love to take down as many barriers as possible so that people actually use it.
  • I've never done piloting on that level before, but it seems like something worth changing in the game rather than introduced as an (expensive) artifact. I guess if everything else fails, an artifact is better than nothing.

Last time I went trading, had something like... 9? Maybe 10? holds full of dust. Could've been more, even. Once you get the general idea to getting to the trading ships, it's not that bad. Took about 35-40 minutes and easily made over 200k gold per person involved in four bashing trips (Wasn't always the same crew every trip), so eh... don't see how it's that big of a deal.

Had another random arti idea. I dunno if it would be problematic but...

Tosha's sash: Gives you access to the PACIFY <mob> command, that works a lot like nymph, but is active and on a moderate eq.
  • Aethercraft slipstream module (or diamonut): allows PILOT (or possibly GRID) SLIPSTREAM <number> : By reducing your algoranthine's resistance to the currents of aetherspace, you are able to increase the speed of your vessel, at the cost of its integrity.

This temporarily reduces your hull by the number supplied of hull, in order to get the speed of a smaller hull ship. So with a 2000 hull ship, you could do GRID SLIPSTREAM 950, your ship would be as fast as a 1050 hull ship (A one room ship), but would also be reduced to 1050 maximum hull.

If this is too much of a boon, maybe it could give half the speed bonus for the hull reduction, so grid slipstream 1000 would give you the speed of a 1500 hull ship.

using GRID SLIPSTREAM 0, or any GRID SLIPSTREAM with a number less than the current slipstream will increase the maximum hull and decrease the maximum speed accordingly, but will not heal the hull that amount. So with our 2000 hull ship reduced to 1050 hull, when the grid does GRID SLIPSTREAM 0, the ships hull would be 1050/2000, until the grid healed the appropriate damage.

You can make custom items. The cost is along the lines of item customization.
  • Oh, but I suppose it won't be like a design. It's essentially customizing nothingness into an item. If you want to have a design that you could work off of in order to make several copies of one items for the cost of comms, that'd be different.
  • Gnafia Aethershroud module: A ship module that allows the pilot to chose one type of aether environment. When activated, the ship will appear on the map as that type of aether environment. For example, setting it to the void and then sitting adjacent to the void will make you indistinguishable from it. Setting it as slipstream and sitting in the middle of a slipstream will make you effectively invisible, unless somebody runs into you. I figure aethercritters could still sense and fight you, though. This will also apply to any docks your ship creates via the aether anchor (Super secret meetings, anyone?). The shroud will drop under the same conditions that a forcefield drops.
  • What's the particular purpose of that over a generic cloaking module? Is it suppose to be less powerful or more (I assume the former)?
  • Less combat ideas please.

Some of these are prone to breaking things, not just being shiny and useful.
  • There is the cloak of thorns right, while generally useful it's still more useful for more Glomdoring than others.

So for auction artifacts, can we introduce other cloaks?

Cloak of Fire, Cloak of Ice, Cloak of Hunger, Cloak of ......

Or one horribly op artifact that will only be offered once in it's entirety that allows a person to break class distinctions and use different class skills? Mix and match for instance, blademaster with acrobatics and crow for instance.

Now that said here are a lot milder artifacts for auctions:

Book of Designs: By browsing through this book, you can see the designs from all of your cartels in one list, with the amount of remaining design slots available in that year at the top!

Empty mask: By putting the corpse of an animal on the mask, you can walk around safe and sound. (For example, if you put the corpse of an adorath on the mask, the corpse is consumed but you can walk without fear of being targeted by the creature. An aggressive action though would reveal your identity and cause you to temporarily lose your mask)

Mapping book: Lists all the zones in the game, with an X marked next to it if you have been there or not. Can go a step further, and if you look at the map in the book, it will show you what rooms (non-secret) you have stepped into with an X.

Doll's House: By putting the dolls into the house, you can shake the house to see the different dolls interact with each other in new ways.

Mark of Favoritism: By placing the mark on an object, if you walk towards it you tend to walk faster (not so many too hasty messages). If you walk away though, you lose that bonus.

Towel: WAVE TOWEL By waving the towel, you can hitchhike on the carriage travelling around the basin without paying the fee. Or alerts nearby aetherships to your location.

Phial of bloodbonding: By putting in the phial the blood of you and the one who you want to consider as your child, you can speed up the process of the family introducing thing.

Blanket of protection: By pulling your trusty blanket of protection, you can hide in plain sight as if you were stealthed. But you cannot move from the spot, and scent still reveals your location.

Welcome messages for clans. Same like the guild message or city or order when you enter the realms, but an artifact that lets you do the same with clans.

Snowball: Usable once a day. Roll in a direction, and it grows bigger and bigger until the end. But instead of the keg that knocks people down, there is a chance that people will get stuck to the snowball until it disperses at the end. OR can be used on creatures and denizens, to clear the path out.

Jack-in-a-box: Drop this nifty item in a place, and the next person to enter the room will get feared.

Forage Gloves: Allows you to forage for food in your location. But you might eat something toxic and get unforseen side effects by mistake (example, forest environment, shrooms. Desert? Cactus weed....)

Broken Arrow: By wearing the broken arrow on your head, you would appear dead to the cursory glance.

Box of wisdom: By rubbing the box of wisdom, you will hear a random quotation from your God or Goddess. Only works for the order you are in.

Growth Pills: By feeding these pills to a vermin, you can temporarily enlarge them to mount for a short while. Ever wanted to ride on that black rat, or weevil, or pigeon, or lizard? Well now is your chance.

Enragement Pills: By feeding these pills to an animal, you can temporarily enrage them to attack everything in sight. Perfect for playing a trick on your friends!

    ----

alright it's getting silly now. I'll stop.
    image
  • I told a friend I would offer this for consideration:

The Surpising Bowtie: A magical box with a handle. When you CRANK it, you are temporarily transported to a magical realm of spiders.
  • Print casting set: A one time use item that lets you make a mold of a corpse's, willing adventurer's, or friendly mob's footprints. You can then USE CAST to add that particular creature to PRINTS checks.

A hole: Only works in outdoor nature environments. You can drop it and ENTER HOLE to disappear from scans, glances, and other sight-based checks. Probing a hole will show you who's inside it, and they're still targetable in the room. Conversation is still possible in the area, scent and mindsense still works, etc. EXIT HOLE to leave. Other people can also DIG you out.
If you own two (both must be your own) You can LINK <hole1> to <hole2> to create a tunnel. If ever both of them are dropped, entering one still allows you to EXIT HOLE, but also allows you to TUNNEL in order to transport into the other hole, which you can then exit. Only works if both holes are in the same outdoor natural environment.

Playful Trickster: This mischievous spirit will have fun at your enemies' expense, so long as you remember to take care of it.
TRICKSTER BIND <target> will get the trickster to tie a rope loosely around the ankles of your target. The next action they take will prone them.
TRICKSTER WEDGIE <target> instructs your friend to give a sharp pull on the target's underwear, causing a very brief eq loss. Won't work if the target isn't wearing underwear.
TRICKSTER CARTWHEEL <target> urges the spirit to cartwheel into somebody, causing a very brief balance loss.
The trickster has a hunger meter, like beasts, although it's not a very demanding one. It can be probed to see how hungry it is. If you don't keep him satiated, he might decide to play his tricks on somebody other than your intended target, perhaps even on you!

Mismatched Socks: Stunningly inappropriate. Must be worn. Allows FLASH ANKLES to prevent any says from being used in the room for the next ten seconds.

Cans and String: if you GIVE CAN TO <person> in the room with you, the two of you can be up to fifteen rooms away (in the same area) and still be able to hear each other's says as though you were in the same room. If either of you leave the range, it resets to your inventory. Perhaps you can LEND CANS TO <person> to allow a friend to use the can.

Colourful Dots: Come in a wide variety of colours! When you ADHERE <dot> TO <object> its dropped desc will become the color of the dot!

Distracting Noisemaker: A useful device you can TOSS <dir> to throw it down line of sight. When it lands it will make a significant ruckus. Any mobile mobs within earshot (x number of rooms) will move towards it to investigate the threat, or out of curiosity.

Mutable Solution: An jar of chemically unsound cream. It refills each month, and each month counts as a different salve.

Fishing pole: Allows you to GO FISH when you are flying, in the trees, or over deep water. Has a chance to pick up an item from ground level (or from dive level, in the case of water).

Miniature teeter-totter: A portable sew-saw you can SETUP for minor willpower regen boost, so long as you have a partner to play with. If either of you JUMP on it, the other person will be forced into the trees, if there are any, or just into the sky. In the latter case, hopefully they can fly or have a levitate spell!
