My rescue dog who's usually real timid/unsure in general (but especially with other dogs) was not only playing with a strange dog, but even wrestling with it! First time I've seen her wrestle with a dog, usually if she plays it's just chasing then doesn't know what to actually do if she catches the other dog.
So yay for her getting better socialized.
Also I'm getting a promotion at work, so I guess that's alright too.
Had a sit down with a potential roommate today: went better than I could have possibly ever expected. Panic mode is over, now I just need to clean and dejunk and get ready to get out.

Completed my first freelance contract. It was only a few hours work, client basically needed a new host for her website after the original webmaster went bankrupt and her site went offline with it. So I had to put it up on the new webspace, import the database there, and then tinker with the configuration a bit to get it all rolling. Still, it was neat for a start and to test out my workflow. Plus, I get paid for this!
It's the oddest thing though, I drag myself through an 8 hour work day, wishing time would pass faster and hating the fact that when I come how I have so precious few time until it is time for bed. But yesterday I gladly worked in that timeframe and went to bed with this feeling of accomplishment and life being just right which I haven't felt in ages. This is huge for me. And it tells me so clearly that this is the path I should follow. I'm being told left and right what a risk it is to be self-employed, how it is good I have a steady job to hold on to, but all I really want to do is carve my own path. Of course it is way safer to do this as a side-business, as there is no way I would get enough income from this right now plus I have all kinds of legal perks this way. Yet I wish to take the plunge when the opportunity presents itself. Is that really so crazy to want to work in a way that brings me joy rather than spend most of my waking time in annoyance? I have a good job, the pay is alright, but it just destroys my soul and I don't feel that it is morally right to subject my only life to that if it can be done differently too. Call me young and naive but this is just really important to me and whenever I push that away bad things happen.

My internship finally came through! Background checks take forever but even the federal bureaucracy gets there eventually. Now I just have a week and a half to find summer housing in DC that isn't cripplingly expensive and is close to a metro. That shouldn't be hard at all.

I'm finally starting to feel better, and I've found out that over the past 2-3 weeks I've lost 5lbs without really trying. Go me! I'm exercising a lot more out of necessity (commute from work has to be by bike for the month of June) so I'm hoping to see some really good results in 4 weeks.
So.. my wife's grandmother died a few days ago and we had to fly out for the funeral and it was a crazy few days. We left the house a wreck because of all the hectic packing and I had to work two double shifts to cover my week. I was really dreading coming home to a nasty house but when I got home, some of my friends had "broken in" (with the key I gave them) and cleaned the house, washed and folded all our clothes, washed all of our dirty dishes, and then left us a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen table.
How could I ever not have hope for humanity with people like them and most of the people like you around?

Every once in a while it is nice to see your tax money go to something that you can make good use of. In this case, it seems I am eligible for a series of 4 hours of job coaching at just 40 euros, where the government will pay the rest of the price. It's estimated at about 400 euros total worth. If that proves insufficient or I want more in-depth advice, I can even pay 40 euros extra and get a second series. Seems this has only been a thing for about a year, and thus relatively unknown, but this is exactly what I need right now Glad this was brought to my attention, I'm reviewing job coach places right now.

Today, I passed my theoretical driving exam and got told that I can get student loans again soon. Means, I can use my own savings now to save for a car.
